Hi
I know recently there were some posts about a good spanner. Spirito’s quote about an adapted butterknife and chloroform for foreplay has stuck in my head since.
I done a few searched and nothing came up however is there a better chainring bolt spanner than others?
please delete thread if I have made a mistake
chain ring bolts use allen keys?
did you mean crank bolt spanner?
edit or were you referring to something like this? To be used ‘behind’ the chainring bolts.

the ‘nut’ part of a chain ring bolt is like a ring with a couple of slits…

I’ve got one of those Chainring Nut Wrenches (BBB branding) if you need to borrow one Azz. Just hit me up.
Alternatively they’re pretty cheap.
i got one of these suckers, i find the middle is a tad wide at times and dsont sit flush all the way in. I could probably grind it down a bit
IME they’re all a bit shit.
But the kind above is the one I’ve had the least trouble with…
Or you could buy Sram/Truvatic chainring bolts that are 5mm for the bolt and 6mm for the nut, therefore not requiring a specific tool. But, they’re a bit pricey and I think black aluminium only.
I have the BBB one and it’s a bit shit, the one Jase posted looks the best, but the Sram with the 5mm / 6mm Allen keys is easily the best.

Thanks Paolo but I reckon I’ll buy one this time.
Jaseyjase that second one is great but I can’t make out the brand in that pic.
I’d like the bolts to be silver please.
Wiggle | LifeLine Chainring Nut Tool | Workshop Tools
EDIT: No longer available through Wiggle, but you now know the brand.
I got the Lifeline one from Wiggle but it looks exactly the same as this one.

Aaron, using the patented Blakey GoogleImageSearch for the T Style tool :
the image was lifted from this thread
Chain Ring bolt wrench/tool
and using the “search similar images” you can find this

If they are all much of a muchness then I suppose anything will do seeing I’m not a mechanic.
This one however did get me hard.
yep, as jolsie pointed out, mines a Lifeline, the pic i posted is some other brand, but the design is the same.
^ that one is a nipple driver.
Edit - it looks like a nipple driver, my bad. I don’t think you would get enough leverage to do up you bolts tight enough with that design.

^ you are not aware of the power of my ‘dominant hand grip’.
Its just for holding isn’t it? The real work is done by the allen/torq key on the other side.
one drop of super glue per nut and you will never need any of these pointless tools again
but in typical FOA style, the solution will be ignored and another identical thread will appear in 4 weeks

Yeah but how do you get it tight enough before the gluing is done?
