Some discussion here http://www.bicycles.net.au/forums/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=22549&hilit=chappelli

Looks like they are a hi ten Clunker to me.

yeah, its a heavy one

They are building a new lighter frame soon.

oh :-o
well i was just wondering if these were worth the price at 440$ shipped…?

my friend is new to fixie’s and cant decide on whether to get the Chappelli or a 2nd hand converted road bike priced at 400$.

My friend stated the spec’s of the converted as:
Velocity Deep V’s Rear and Front
new cranks w/ chain ring worth 90$
Vittoria Randonneur tire (R), Zaffiro (F)
Risers w/ Oury
KMC chain
every other part we assume are stock.(stem, headset, BB, forks, seat post, saddle)
Frame has been stripped and repainted with spray paint.

neither my friend or I has seen the bikes ourselves, not even photos.

I would say that these bikes are not worth even close to $400. They look to be about the same quality as K-mart bikes. In fact if, or when :frowning: , K-mart start selling single speed’s I’m pretty sure they will be very similar to these.

From looking at the pics on the Crappelli website, it’s pretty obvious that the brakes, tyres and cranks are rubbish, which is a good indication that the rest of the bikes is too.

I’d say have a look at the conversion, possibly with a friend with some experience with bikes, and see what it’s like. You could always have a go at doing your own conversion instead.

Ok so a friend took delivery of a black chapelli yesterday sigh

It is what it is, a very cheap bike. What i noticed:

[ul]
[li]Brakes onto non-machined rims[/li][li]Low BB with long cranks means you can hardly turn *big problem[/li][li]Frame is really long in the flesh[/li][li]Straps on both sides loosen with any force[/li][li]Quando rear hub, and an “Assess” front hub[/li][li]It’s kinda heavy[/li][li]it just didn’t feel nice to ride[/li][/ul]

ya get What ya pay for :expressionless:

Yeah that is a bloody problem. You can work with it, until you forget and take a turn at speed then end up on your arse wondering what just happened.

oh thanks for that guys
most likely we’ll be getting the conversion.

What about the new Cell fixie’s as an option. The track bike looks pretty nice i reckon.

Hi guys,

I have never used a fixed-gear. I woud like to buy one. I heard about Chappelli Cycles. Apparently they are not really good bikes… I would like to use my bike after work and during the week-ends (no tricks or freestyle stuff…). My budget is max 500 £ (I live in London, I know that we are on a Australian forum, but since Chappelli is an Australian brand, I guess you guys know it better…). Are the new Chappelli really not good bikes? I find that they have a nice style, but I know it is not the only thing that matters here…I am a girl, I am 5.8, is the 54 cm size good for me? Do you know other good looking and nice bikes?
Thanks a lot for our advices
Sorry for the mistakes in english, I am French…

can we go on a date?

Chappelli are terrible bikes.don’t buy them. a 54 frame will suit you well.

try these, as mentioned earlier in the thread:Fixed-Gear-Bike CELL-Mallet-2-
they have a 53 which should be okay depending how long you’re legs are

Thanks for the advice Tomhall. I hope I will find the bike of my dreams…

is this spam?
for £500 you can get an infinitely better bike in england. try here for a start: Single Speed Bikes | Buy a Single Speed Road Bike | Wiggle

Hi,

I’m one of the guys behind Chappelli. I’ve been following fixed.org.au posts since we launched in January this year. I haven’t posted anything until now but just wanted to say:

Thanks for all the genuine comments (both good & bad) and discussion about our bikes, being an internet retailer we focus very strongly on customer service and we take customer feedback seriously, read comments in forums such as this one and conduct follow up surveys with our customers to gauge their views.

Since we released our first range of bikes in January 2010 which were the ones that most people in this forum have commented on, we’ve changed or upgraded over 25 separate parts on our bikes to improve their look, performance and comfort. The changes we have made address many of the issues that have been raised in this forum and include improved machined edges on painted 42mm rims, dual pivot brakes, Lasco fixie 165mm crank, high flange hubs, raked forks, stronger bottom bracket, riser handlebars, alloy MKS toe clips with leather straps and leather grips.

In a July survey with over 200 responses from actual customers for our first 6 months, 86% said they were either satisfied or very satisfied with our bikes and currently over 50% of our customers come to us directly through word of mouth, so most people who actually own one of our bikes are pretty happy with them.

Launching a new Australian bike brand is not easy and it will take time for us to get everything right, especially as we are trying to do things a little differently by designing the bikes here in Australia and sourcing and manufacturing our own product. However I think that our product is now just as good if not better than some of our competitors bikes at a similar price point who have been recommended on this forum. That said we are always looking to improve and develop and we know that people are always seeking different things from their bikes and have different needs and budgets so we welcome the input of all users of this forum.

Thanks,
Tom

agreed. thanks tom for the reasonable tone and for considering the feedback offered here.

Hi,
My first post here and I have just started riding fixed gear. I went for a Chappelli Pistola which I think is new for the 2014 season. I am very happy with the bike and their customer service has been great. I am in no way connected to the firm but I must say as a new fixie rider I love it. I am just starting to get the hang of it so to find this forum is really good as I have plenty of questions…like what sort of kms to do get out of the fixed cog and chain?

My bad, I thought this would be talk regarding former Australian cricket captain and now commentator.
