i remember when i was into mountain bikes people said the exact same thing about v brakes, full face helmets, disc brakes, lock out rear shocks, lock out front shocks, ‘drop’ seat posts, carbon frames, dual suspension, 29er wheels, body armour, 650b wheels, carbon bars and so on and so on
the same thing has happened with road bikes and the vast majority of people will buy whatever the big manufacturers supply to the pro tour
i agree that discs are not needed but they will be all over road bikes within the next year or two and just to annoy everyone even more, they work really well
if this was my ‘last bike i will ever need to buy’ i would be getting disc tabs put on it, not necessarily using them (yet) but its not my bike so…
quite the opposite … I could fit most any steel road bike built 30 years ago with current spec components and it’d work fine without any issues. If you think anything built today is gonna be obsolete in 10, 15 or 20 years time you’ve got rocks in your head.
Even more rocks if you think disc brakes are merely a matter of brazing disc tabs onto a road frame without any other thought. You’ll need a beefier fork crown & thicker fork blades as well as heavier duty chain/seat stays too. All that extra weight for something that’s not needed or just in case 30-years-down-the-road scenario is a big fat waste of time imo.
And like a chorus line of ass farts you’ll all line up & bleat “jeez that’s heavy” and think you know better. I’ll be the first to say that the DNA that produced such bleaters would have been better off if it progressed no further than jizz in a sock.
drivetrain and wheels of number two, frame, RACKS and other bits of number three. though there is nothing wrong with number one, either but the racks of number three. Yes.
