Interesting, and worth being aware of. There is a hell of a lot of Thomson parts flying around ebay, and a lot for sale in China and Taiwan. Buyer beware.
Makes me wonder whether a Thomson stem I bought last year is real or not (bought it on ebay from Taiwan I think). The fake in the video is good enough to fool most people I think.
TBH - if it bought from China, it is probably fake. A friend does a bit importing from Shanghai ofr the Kung-fu industry/scene here ( and has worked, studied & lived in Shanghai, and met his wife there) says you can buy anythign there, and if you want something copied they will do it.
The counterfeiters probably aren’t Ayn Rand lovers at least.
^ Still, are they Randian heroes? Probably.
damn! just about to buy thomson stuff of ebay
Most of the sellers on ebay are fine, but there is a lot of Thomson stuff for sale located in China/Taiwan. Some of these will be fakes, especially if the price is too good.
Do your research and don’t buy say a Thomson Elite if it’s only $40.00
What he said. Go to AspireVelotech for Thomson.
ooh, care to elaborate on this?
the part failed after 25,788 cycles in a standard fatigue test. That would have been about 2 hours. The test is 60 pounds of force out of phase. (left/right) Our requirements are a minimum of 180,000 cycles…
so, a genuine thomson will fatigue after roughly 14 hours?
Read that too. Must be a typo.
The other thing that strikes me is how good the copy is. I mean you would need a pretty good 3-axis CNC setup to create something close, and imagine the machining time. At the end of the day the copy itself would cost quite a bit.
Not a typo. A genuine Thomson will fail after about 14 hours. Of fatigue testing.
i fail after about 12 minutes of fatigue testing
you spelled “wanking” wrong.
