Finally, my lo-pro project.

Yo

I’ve always wanted a pursuit track but I’ve had to wait to find something a bit interesting and unique in smaller size that didn’t cost an arm. Not easy.
I was looking for funky tubes (aero/bendy), cool paint, unique geo, some history, 650c front of course and late 80s early 90s suit C-Record.
This thing came up, bit the bullet, stoked.

I had no idea on it’s origin and maker as the internet only shows two other frames by this name and not much else.
There is a small sticker that appears on these frames reading ‘Inh. Béla Szekeres’… The sticker also has an address in Germany. A quick look at Google Maps and yup, a bike shop run by a Bela Szekeres and son.
Sent off e-mail (in English) and eventually a reply (in German).

He says he built this frame in 87/88 for a cyclist named Siggi (Siegfried?) whom was in training for the ‘Deutschland-Hessen’ team. Full name I dunno. He goes on to say he placed 6th in Sprint at the 52 Olympics and later moved into frame building and more recently restoration.
He would be into his 80s now, full respect to him for translating my e-mail and getting back to me.

History. Rad.

Frame is straight but plenty of knocks chips in the paint particularly in the clear coat.
The name on the top tube has been lifted from beneath the clear.
I was considering a repaint but you all are right, I’ll leave it for now anyway

Going for as much period as I can afford.
I got some parts already (some from my sold Berretto):

  • Khamsin Disc
  • Black Cinelli 1A
  • Record HS 1st gen.
  • Newer Chorus seat post which is basically the same as early record. Happy to keep that.
  • Chorus pedals, Not super necccesary to go record pedals, they’ll take a beating anyway.
  • Turbo Saddle.

Required:

  • Silver tubular front. Want silver to match the walls of the disc. Have found one, negotiating price.
  • C-Rec low flange hub for radial lacing.
  • BB
  • Cinelli LA84
  • C-Rec pista cranks shield logo pref 165mm.
  • Tape, white/black fade? Or just black.

I think the white disc and black stem will look good with the gunmetal/pearl fade.

Some more pics:

Parts so far:

Just gotta save a few more pennies and cross my fingers I can find those parts!

Looking forward to seeing this progress.

me too.

Mmmmm very nice

2014 was year of the lo-pro-tho?

FINALLY!! the secret project is revealed!

Love this frame, you know how much I love pursuit track frames with unique designs!

Can’t wait to see the finished build. And sorry, still can’t find a front hub for you…

Easily my most anticipated project of 2015. Love obscure bike marques!

You’ve got some nice furniture, too.

Nice frame! Excited to see it built up good choice of components.

Gonna look sick.

Siiiiiiick, pursuit and △△△ A+

Ya, thanks!

Getting excited. Have started buying parts but it’s proving a bit expensive given of the dollar at the moment.
Managed to find the perfect 650c silver rim and a hub to match. Waiting on post

Finally found some of these proper plates at the right price to replace my makeshift job. Also came with the little strap ends. Might get different straps to compliment the blue a little more.

Still undecided on tape.
Been thinking something more interesting like Fade/Shade tape but haven’t found black/white yet. Can get yellow/white maybe to compliment the yellow in the saddle?
Or just play it safe with regular old black.

black yellow harlequin ?

Stealth black/black harlequin…

Nice idea Lyndon.

I’m coining a new phrase for it - nice textureway

boom!

so vogue right now.

That vogue is the best. Not the biggest on cotton though! hmm.

Good mail day today!

Quietly had my eyes peeled for silver 650c rims for years but there aren’t that many around besides Shamal which I can’t afford.
Got lucky to grab this, spot on 88’ afaik. Track use only and campy too haha. So much #passion
C-rec hub to match for radial loving.
And the LA84 in 40cm narrow. Usual scratches from stem but no drillings. above average.

Had the front wheel laced!
I wanted radial but they decided on 1x. Reason being, unusually, the hub has only every second hole with a recess causing the spokes to sit strangely all placed in same direction so they weren’t comfortable with it. Safer like this, maybe? Dunno. Looks good anyway.
Matching tubs, of course. I actually had to buy another rear to be sure they both the same logo.

Also wrapped bars with some NOS iscaselle fade. Not as good as Pelten Shade but still rad.

Next I’ll be getting a few MM shaved off the head tube and fork crown to allow for the extra headset stack.
Getting there.

Yesssss very lovely

Oops almost forgot to update here

Last week had Rogers Bespoke (conveniently not far from my place) generously spin his cutters on my HT to gain a few mils.

Pressed headset, is nice, glad I took the gamble.
And of course, fitted bars and test fit wheels.

Should be spinning in the next week or two.
