FOA Show N Shine! - Saturday December 1st

hey folks.

ok, details are sparse, but thought we’d get this idea out there and let you all know to “save the date”.

after seeing the popularity of Pushies Galore, we’re looking to run our own Bike Show and Shine in Melbourne, and maybe a swap meet on the same day (though unlikely to be a two day affair).

food, drinks, coffee, music, prizes (there’ll be a few different categories) and RAD times a’plenty.

so start building if you’ve got something awesome in the works, start polishing if your pride and joy is covered in dust, or start scouring ebay if you need an excuse to be part of the fun.

out of towners more than welcome, be great to see some of the sweet builds being finished in perth and brissie lately, and, as always, the sydney and adelaide crew aren’t too far away!!

like i said, details are a little thin, as we’ve only briefly brainstormed this at FOA HQ (not brenno and james’ house), but we will let you know details as they come to hand.

GET EXCITED.

oh, if you have any specific questions about it all, or if you wanna be a sponsor, hit me up with a pm or email rolly@@@@@@nspbikes (dot) com [dot] ayoo. sweet.

oh, probably worth mentioning, if you have any questions that i think are beneficial to the thread i’ll add them in here.

idea is to get the word out there, then once we have more details to announce we’ll open it up for people to chat about.

Hey folks, got a little bit of news about the Show n Shine:

  • Brunswick Cycling Club have agreed to let us use the Harrison Street Velodrome for the day. The kiosk will be open and the BBQ on.
  • Saint Cloud are on board.
  • Blane from Cargone Couriers has agreed to bring down the “stereo bike” for some tunes.
  • Treadlie will provide online pre and post articles and promo (unfortunately the timing means we’ll miss the actual print edition for December, but there may be pics in the March issue).
  • Kumo Cycles are on board with some merch.
  • There’s a flyer in the works.

We’ll announce more as it comes to hand, but things are happening!!

There’s no sailboat on it.

Just to clarify- this will be for all types of bikes, not just fixed gear?

Looks like it says “fine bicycles”, thereby ruling out your vintage mtb. Soz H :frowning:

With Fyxo’s ACBS on that weekend too, this is going to be one hell of a good weekend of bike porn!!

yep

folks, there will be more info on this real soon, i’m just snowed under after a couple of weeks of insanity that involved way too many airports and subsequent jetlag/illness!!

watch this space (probably not til Monday Oct 8th though)

This doesn’t sound like everybody gets a prize day Rolly. No retro roadies with shakes? No CX bikes, no antique/vintage rides, best patina, coolest kids balance bike, raddest BMX, 650C titanium roadies, best fillet brazed, best lugged, best tigged, best bonded, best HP die cast…, most PRO, most Pengy!

by all means add in categories blakey, you’ll be judging them anyway…

but there will be prizes for plenty of things not listed above, we don’t want 40 categories.

and i’ll need to go back and bold the bit that says ‘spot prizes’, as you must’ve missed it…?

Best MAX collection, best bike with zero forks, best bribing of judges…

one thing i forgot to mention, and that blakey has inadvertently reminded me of, is that if there is enough interest in a CX/MTB/BMX category, by all means let me know, i’m happy to add categories should there be sufficient interest.

any questions about all of it, put them here, i’ll answer as quickly as i can.

really looking forward to this though folks. with andy’s FYXO event running the same weekend in Sth Melb, we’ll be hoping for a really good turnout for those that are involved with the FYXO event, as well as any people here from interstate that don’t have plans for the saturday night.

bikes/swag/tunes = rad times

So what’s the process for entering a bike? Or do we just rock up on the day?

My vote for ‘scratched up and rusty track bike with some shiny bits that hasn’t seen the track in a couple of decades’.

there’ll be a pre-registration form online soon hopefully (nickj is going to do this from the states), and that will be the preferred method so we can get an idea of numbers and setup/layout, but there will be entries permitted on the day at this stage.

i’d be putting a bike like yours in the fixie/commuter/workhorse

Fixie/Commuter/Workhorse

Best use of deep vees in a non ironic setting, best handmade-by-you, lifetime achievement award for services to FOA, owned by the largest number of users, bike not owned by Erle at any point in time, lightest, heaviest.

new category: bikes that blakey thinks are worthy of awards.

we should call the awards “the blakeys”. clever!

“…and the gold blakey goes to…”

seriously, what were you doing when we all talked about this at EW?!?
