Giants & orange bikes or The Great Pumpkin isn't real Charlie Brown

I think that they’re quite good.

Hmmmm

No worse than that cyan/magenta Nomad, and people are tripping over themselves to get there hands on one.

I am very impressed with 2015 Giants, especially now they have returned to a standard tapered fork to match the rest of the industry, for mtbs at least.
Colour schemes matter little to me, though the new colour schemes are better than previous years.
If you don’t like the colour, do what my mate did on his brand new Bronson, matt black vinyl, murdered black is #enduro.

As per usual JP speaks the truth succinctly.

Giant > bigass Spesh-Trek Americarmholes.

And there’s nothing wrong with their colourway - tho’ I do admit that you posted H looks like it was designed specifically for a Dutch Fred.

Whats with you guys liking Giant so much? No hate, just curious to know as they are not that popular in Europe for lets say more enthusiastic cyclists.

Because they’re good bikes usually with a great spec for the price. There’s a fair bit of hate for them in the mtb scene, but I only think that’s because there are so many of them out on the trails (usually being ridden by newish/younger riders).

Europe is a much bigger market with a lot of brands like Felt, Cube, Lapierre etc that we don’t get a lot of down here.

This^^

They’re probably the best value for money of the big brands, and they have a pretty good reputation with warranty/frame replacement etc.
If I was in the market for new crabon a giant would definitely be near the top of my list.

My humble and probably ill-informed opinion is that most the of high-end crabon bikes are pretty similar, so go with the best bang-for-buck, including follow-up service etc.

Yup the Giant frame replacement policy is pretty hard to top. And apparently* they’ve adjusted their suspension configuration/ bearing sealing (… again) and now they don’t creak and click like they did a couple of years ago. My brother’s '13 Reign is appalling for it.

*According to my mechanic - who also happens to ride Enduro for the Giant Fox Racing

I got the Dually fevers, there’s an enduro race in a fortnight (the day after JP’s snow shoe race) that I’m thinking of doing.

I want dis bike for trail times.

Also like the new reign but have no idea where I would ride it.

Looking forward to a season in Whistler post degree, the glory seems the best bang for buck option.

I really like the fact the industry has moved on from matte black ‘murdered out’ (dear god I hate that term) paint schemes, but that orange bike above, I mean, come on!

Nought wrong with it, I quite like the fact that the designers have done something a bit different ( well, as different as painting a bike can be) otherwise we would all be riding around on murdered out black bikes. I’m personally not that fond of metallic purple with a handful of glitter thrown in but I have seen some really nice examples of it.

tl/dr: can’t please all the people all the time.

Its funny you say that… I think their 2015 stuff is absollutely unreal! especially their womens kit… the lush is bloody wonderful lazer colors geometric schemey top tube paint wonderland. I wish we could get K on one for cheap.

Love for giant is simple. They are priced well and control more of their production and inputs than any othe big brand I know of. They strive for high quality and are willing to do stuff themselves if they can’t find quality stuff at a price that allows them to pass good value on to us.

Ride in the US for a few months and a Giant is kind of an interesting bike to have. Its all about context, wanting to be unique-like and none of it has to do with how nice a bike is.

PS I hate the term “murdered out”, too

I’m with you on the design site JP, I do think they look pretty nice. Never really looked into Giants, even though their shops basically surround me (I work in Clarence Street) and their flagship store has the nicest dudes around working for them (went there to buy socks). I may give them another chance, the value for money thing seems to be very true. I’m kind of in the market for a cheapish road bike (to ride with my Tri GF and to not have to change my tires on the Cross Check all the time) and this one looks nice enough

Sorry for making a Giant thread out of the Trek thread…

Ok, no love for this term.
I like the more subtle colour schemes, not so much the Spec CX day-glo for me.

Ok Giant lovers, when are the new 2015 bikes out?

What do we look like a goddamn Giant dealership?!

(shakes head, walks away)

Thought so but I may just walk into a goddam Giant dealership tomorrow instead.

I am heading to For The Riders on Friday to look at the 2015 range.
