Goodbye Summer !

More details on your bike please Ben

Chaz, can’t tell if they are abalone or mushrooms?

If abalone , obey the fishing limit next time! (Which is hard to do, they are damn delicious).

Just had a great week in Sydney, best weather I have ever encountered there, not even humid, evenings like this from my mate’s apartment in Pyrmont. Thanks Sydney. I’ve worked out the whole Sydney economy is based on parking fees though.

The solution is don’t drive anywhere.

Off the bike until June according to the surgeon so options limited. Used the light rail from Pyrmont. Good system, caught that right to the stage door at the Capitol to catch up with Tarn Mott. Picked up the wife and daughter from Taronga Zoo at school pick up time. Epic fail on my part. I discovered the Volvo XC90 is the natural mode of transport there.

Yeah, they’re all black lip Abs - but we were still under the limit - that’s a haul from two licenses. Plus they’re west of the Hopkins river, which means they have to me 13cm minimum.

How was everyones summer?

Okay I guess. Some shitty anxiety issues mean I’m riding on the trainer a lot, but I still had some nice rides outside, including a pretty darn good 110km ride at Jindabyne a few weeks back. Did lots of swimming over summer as well.

and yeah, feels like autumn has really hit today. fkn cold here in Sydney. And right on cue, the new wheels for my commuter will turn up this week just in time for me to freeze my arse off on 5am commutes. Actually looking forward to that tbh, it’s the only saving grace of being forced back to the office two days per week.

How about you Liam?

My summer holidays started off with my first experience with covid which had me in bed for a few days and then not feeling great a couple of weeks later. I then went down to my friends house down the South Coast while he was in Alaska… so a lot of beach days and playing with Daisy dog in some shallow water beaches which is always a good time. Also being super close to my fav brewery meant a lot of time spent there.

When I was at home… I started to get to know the oven that I built last year, still heaps to learn though! The veggie garden provided some goods for the pizzas and other dishes. I brewed a few beers which are on tap at the moment which includes a plum sour that I picked the previous summer.

Then while the weather was warm I headed down to Narooma to ride the new trails down there. So good!

I also got into the Zwift thing… which resulted in an injury from too much/too soon which I am dealing with still at the moment with a sore ankle/calf. Good times!

I did a bit of riding with my brother as well, we are toying with the idea of riding the Hunt 1000 this year so am doing longer rides and keeping that in mind for my gym work.

But with the weather cooling down now – I am just keen to keep cooking in that oven!

Nice one fellas!

Oven and set up looks amazing Ezy !

Mine didnt start so great having broken my collarbone being hit by a car (again) mid October. Was meant to be my first crack at crits but obviously that was no longer an option.

By the time summer came i was only getting back onto the bike.

December the fam and i went to Japan for a few weeks which was incredible as always, mainly did the theme parks for the kids, Disney, Disney Sea, Universal, Harry Potter Studios, aquarium and plenty of food. Speaking of food, we ended up staying at a traditional jap Inn that had an all you can eat buffet as part of the stay, breakfast, lunch, dinner. But not some shitty buffet, the food was incredible, just quality meats and sushi/sashimi. Also experienced my first proper Onsen, eye opener for sure. We were mainly in Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and Sendai. Sendai as we visited my wifes old exchange student / homestay penpal, so we spent a few days with them, taking us to non touristy places. Amazing.

Back in Perth for summer and trying to get back to riding properly, last few months putting in the extra kms as a few mates of mine have signed up for Seven, scared af.

SOMTB. Took mine to Thredbo, got in some nice runs, fell off it, got back on.

Did this:

Narooma is on the cards next.

Only 450km of road rides, seems low. But it’s enough to keep me happily eating for now. This winter might be a test.

Oh heck - warranty on the cards?

For mine? Nah, I bent it fair and square by falling over and getting the chain caught on something. It would have been my second last run of the day as it was, so I called it after that one. New chain already in place. The bend is only 4 links from the joiner anyway, so if nothing else I now have a slightly short spare chain.

Oh my bad! I was looking at the frame and thought there was a crack

Oh, yeah, that does look like one. It’s just the edge of the protection film the previous owner put on it. Also, Canyon’s fine print says ‘lifetime warranty for original owner with paperwork’. So to strikes there regardless.
