i just found a old shogun roadie on hard rubbish and it sparked my thoughts of what some other people have found! be it good bad or ugly i want to see your freebies!
i will be posting pics of it as soon as i can and will probably turn it into a cheap beater conversion.
I was picking someone up in brunswick and found a heavy as fuck road frame and some busted old rear wheels. Was preety dark and this thread just reminded me they’re still in my boot.
My first fixed gear came from a hard rubbish pile. A Melbourne made Bates club racer. Beautiful thing. I restored it, rode it for two years, then sold it for 300 beans. Fuck I miss that bike.
I found a fishing spear once when I was twelve. That was pretty rad (for a twelve year old)
found more ( 10) in hard rubish/parks/tip runs than i could count , gave some away ( gotta share the love) and did some up to sell and buy/find do more up.
when i was in perth recently i found an old path racer in hard rubbish. unfortunately, frame was severely bent, but i did salvage some beautiful major taylor bars… wished i’d also grabbed the brookes saddle even though it was very well used.
more recently, i got one of these:
alas, it had sustained some water damage before i rescued it… its functionality is very much limited…
Most suburbs have that one old tv and electronics shop that does repairs …eg “Kosovo Radio & Tv Centre, 69-75 Scotchmer St, Fitzroy North, 94813269” … get that shit fixed yo~ and you could make a killing at the next hipster gathering =] … it’s kinda funny, they’re the kind of business you never know is there until you look for it, need one, etc
Pics of my hard rubbish kuwahara road bike coming … once it gets back from the coaters
I’m loving the Shogun Katana I got off the kerbside. Tange infinity tubing and Shimano 400EX running gear - the only thing wrong with it was one broken spoke. Drop outs were a bit shallow to fix it, so it was reborn as a 14speed wet weather commuter with front and rear mudguards.
I pulled four bikes out of hard rubbish in about half an hour in footscray one year. Most of them were then ridden into the ground by various housemates. One time we found one of those inflatable boats like on baywatch. I still wonder why we didn’t grab it.
In Brunswick the other week I threw two old wrecks out in the collection and they were gone the next morning, along with a couch I had been using as a workstand, people are getting desperate.
cool thanks for the tip! they’re just around the corner from me so will swing by, though i was probably understating the extent of water damage… no harm in asking i suppose, and i would love to have it up and running.
Found something called a Roadmaster that will eventually become my missus’ fixie as it’s too small for me. Perfectly rideable condition with chrome bits…neighbour put it out with the rubbish.
Non bike related stuff: speakers, coffee percolator, table, turntables, chair, hoodie, VCR…yeah, I’m a scavenger!
i found an apollo 4 with full shimano 600 in perfect condition behind a salvos (buried in clothes) to bad the frame was 60 top tube 60 seat post. but atleast i got a sick groupy from it
