have you gone full beardo?

while i still like the word brifter i can confirm that Ell-P invented it (or brought it into local usage). why? because Ell-P is a quality word-nerd!

I have always hated the word brifter and I will be letting Leigh know how I feel about this. It makes sense that useless words go hand in hand with a taste for terrible 90s hardcore.

Leigh invented shakes, not brifter

I prefer shimano total integration

But that doesn’t cover anything passion-related. Or Microshit.

Or sRMA

Haha nice. What about integrated shift brake levers, or as i like to say, ISBL’s…

Really rolls off the tongue.

Isabells?

nah, brake levers and shifters, not bells.

TC: I like “brifters”. Shakes is clever too, and I like it.

This is your problem pete, far too accommodating. Now I know where goose gets it from.

Yeah, memory isn’t great, but I’m pretty sure I helped bring said term into usage, at least in Melbourne.
It’s funny, right?

Yeah, I moved onto shakes I think around the same time that I realised Chokehold were actually, ah, kinda shit.

Says he who worships at the shrine of Chokehold.
Also, see Blakey’s comment above.
Furthermore, lets hang out sometime.

TC: Just worked out who Ell-P is.

TC: I only just worked out the brifters/shakes thing.

TC: Flappy-paddles takes the cake for me.

It looks like Soma is doing some updates to the Grand Randonneur frame and fork.
http://www.somafab.com/archives/product/grand-randonneur-frame-set

Hopefully it’ll sort out some of the weirdness with the current frame (long seat and head tube extensions, ugly fork bend). It’d be even better if they pissed off the whole 1" threaded thing and went 1 1/8" threadless like the Boulder Bicycles.

Not holding my breath though.

When Soma first announced the Grand Randonneur I was hoping it was going to be a Taiwanese made Boulder All Road but it seems like too many concessions have been made along the way.

Okay. So THIS is rad. Mitch Pryor has just announced an Urban Randonneur project. Taking his Randonneur Project frame and adding extra carrying capacity to the front.

I’m excited to offer a limited run of something different to those of you die-hard commuters who know just how perfect a randonneur bicycle with the right mix of performance and carrying capacity can be for everyday riding. If ever there was one bike to do it all, and sacrifice nothing, I think this would have to be it. I’m building a small number of Urban Randonneurs this Fall and am taking pre-orders now at a reduced price for the initial run only. Building will commence in October and delivery will be in the first quarter of 2016.

Starting with a fully integrated and custom-sized 650B randonneur bicycle, I’ve extended the carrying capacity beyond the typical handlebar bar bag rack, to that of a porteur bicycle, but without sacrificing performance or comfort. The result is a bike that is just as capable hauling an awkward 30 pound load across town as it is on extended efforts or fast events. A demi-porteur rack attaches mid-fork with the option for detachable low-rider pannier racks as well. Highlights include:

Clearance for 650B x 42mm tires and fenders
Bi-laminate construction with custom geometry and tubing selection tailored to each rider
Brazed demi-porteur rack with a light mount and optional detachable low-riders
Integrated dyno wire routing in frame, and fork built for the connectorless Schmidt SL hub
Choice of threaded steer tube or threadless for adding a light switch at stem
Choice of braze-on Compass centerpull brakes or cantilevers
Internal top tube cable routing and stainless steel dropout faces for longevity

I’m offering the frame, fork, and rack for this initial run at $3500 - a discount of $750 from the standard Randonneur Project frameset. This run will be small, so space is limited. Get in touch at info@mapbicycles.com
