Heavymetal's commuter bike manifesto

Fender fail. Will not happen with disc brakes. Not happy. Looking at alternative fenders …

well, it does say whatever bike. bought this for a song (for the arabesque groupset and blue turbo saddle), and sold it about a year later.
was a very nice frame, but huuuge. 70cm st iirc.

check out that steerer! forks from 56cm frame for comparison

Damn, that would’ve been John Kennedy’s size…

only has one top tube tho.

Wet-weather beater for commuting over winter:

(I know, brake levers need re-positioning and the gears aren’t connected yet)

front rack reinforced with axle mount stays added, gullwing bars installed with 135mm stem and re-cabled to suit.

Have been rocking this setup for a week or so and love it, so cruisey and my wrists love it (my left one is a bit shit at the moment)

By now I can say that the Serfas Drifters get two big thumbs up.

gonna chuck a rear rack on in the coming days (a VO one if i can get my hands on one) to help with overnight camping duties.
also have a spare set of FSA K-force light cranks which I’ll put back in this bike to lighten things up some.

that looks great sime!

My new 1991 (I think) Peugeot Kings Canyon MTB.
Complete Deore DX groupset (including pedals).
Once I get tired of it in it’s current incarnation, I am thinking it will make a fine 650B, mudguard equipped tourer.

My new rig… Still got some fine tuning to do. mostly stem length/bar width/saddle as I’ve never had a bike like this before I was pretty much making a few educated guesses at best.

10km commute with some dirt on the way home today and it rode suprisingly well. extending my commute to 35km in the morning to give it a better shakedown. pretty excited. Sorry for the bad fading light photo from this arvo. Will get some better ones soon.

This is the best bike I’ve seen on foa in ages. Bike looks virtually nos!

Really?

^^ Yeah, what?

This, on the other hand:

looks like more fun than shitting in your mates socks.

Come on, H is all about old MTBs that handle terribly!

You painted those rims didn’t you? Yet Tris was selling a set of P35 wheels that already had factory orange 650B rims that would have been ideal for this frame!

Yep and fucked em up too. So don’t look close or you will want to slap me. (deservedly so)

At the time I didnt have the extra cash, and wanted to go bigger rims too mostly for price and availability of tires. He had/has half a dozen things that would of suited this build but for one reason or another I went different ways.

Yes… Yes

well i saw the sibling of that peugeot mtb a week ago, but in grey and musk pink colouring, i was quite impressed at the time, dind’t know peugeot made mtb’s let alone 531 reynolds ones

H, If you like this one I have a friend with an even coughs better early 1990s XT equipped Peugeot in original condition. If you are looking out for one (Its seriously nice )flick me a PM as I think he’s looking to offload it before he heads overseas later in the year. (Mods, sorry if I’m breaking the rules by saying this.)

ha ha… been there done that - God damn painting. Shakes, I might be able to help you fix them. I have some tricks up my sleave.

Thats a really nice bike dude. You gonna bring it on some MTB rides?

On the topic of old school MTB’s, I’ve got a slowburner 1991 zaskarproject being built up with period correct NOS deore xt stuff.

Serious trouble finding the 2x4 forks and flip flop stem though.

Fuck i Gota stay outa this thread way to much beardo shit in here for me to handle…

Here, let me show you out.
