Hub ball bearing size. What grade? [Shimano 105]

Need to swap out some ball bearings from some shimano 105 hubs i have (one of the model number is hb-5500).

Just wondering are the front and rear ball bearing sizes the same.
And what size are they?

I plan to go grade 25 (they are the grade used by dura ace i believe). Or does anyone recommend anything else (other materials etc)?

Anyone know a good aussie online store to purchase from too?

Go to your local bearing supplier or LBS.

Fronts are usually 3/16", rears are usually 1/4"

well, i love my ceramic bearings… so does blakey.

A good lbs will have the DA bearings in stock which work in in the lower end shimano hubs, it depends on what’s more important to your time or cash. That is spending a hr finding something on line to save five bucks then telling you local bike mechanic with a smug look on your face that you have just found the same bearings five bucks cheaper.

it’s not about cash…

it’s more the typical thing of asking a shop for a specific part (ie high grade)… and them just giving me some lower grade bearings…

I would say it would be hard for me to find a good shop that would give me legit grade bearings (im in Canb).

Capital Bearing Supplies will be able to source you some bearings from skf. They might not have grade 25 in stock but will be able to get a better grade, grade 20.

well measured the bearings and they are the size blakey said…

having a hard time finding grade 25 or ceramic balls in AU though… >:(

SCV Imports - Wheels Manufacturing - National bike supplier of bicycles, performance cycling products, cycling clothing, cycling accessories.

won’t show the prices without being a dealer but there is lots out there as you can see

just get grade 20 from the link i posted. they’re in Canberra. And I can assure you skf have them as I’ve ordered them before. 100x 1/4, 3/16 & 5/32

grade 20 > grade 25
