Heading out for a spontaneous RNP firetrail/singletrack/cyclocross afternoon ride - does anyone want to join? Catching a 1:22 train from Central, will be at Sutherland at 2pm.
Thinking of doing a 50k loop via Lady Carrington Drive and Waterfall, similar to this: http://nobmob.com/node/3490
Alex, looked like a good ride, would be keen to get a semi-regular fire trail/dirt ride organised to explore some new places in Sydney, pending on others who may be keen.
Yep, was a great ride today. So good that I want to do it again on Saturday. Who’s in this time?
Thinking of meeting at 8am at the Waratah Park Reserve car park. Straight across the road from Loftus Station, where the crit track is.
I’ll be on my cross bike, but given how rough some of the tracks are, a MTB would probably be a better choice. There’s a fair bit of road riding too though, i.e. the climb out of the park to Waterfall, and along the highway to Heathcote.
If you are on a cx bike I’d go for the biggest tyres you can fit, e.g. 35mm. That’s what I had today, and with 50psi or so I managed to avoid pinch flats (only just though).
Pace-wise, I’m not trying to set any records, and anyone with gears and/or suspension will be faster than me anyway. We won’t be leaving anyone behind though.
From Waratah Park up the highway to Loftus Oval. Cheeky little bit of singletrack, then sandy firetrail down to Temptation Creek, steep climb out, more singletrack up to the National Parks centre.
Take the bitumen down the hill to Audley Weir, then follow Lady Carrington Drive for 10k of very nice firetrail. Climb up McKell Ave to Waterfall and then hoon down the highway to Heathcote.
Back streets of Heathcote, some nice firetrail/sandy singletrack, options for some extra side trails, a rough rocky section, then pop out at Farrell Ave.
One last tasty bit of singletrack back to Loftus Oval (with jumpy bits!) then back across the highway to Rawson Ave.
This sounds great Alex. I’m keen as, but time poor (for getting to and from that side of the city). Keep posting when you’re heading out, I may surprise you!
Just ordered some sprung forks for the 29erSS and will be keen to bounce along.
Did the loop again this morning with Ollie. Had a great time, was nice being in the shade for almost the whole ride. Both on rigid ss bikes and didn’t stack it once. (A bouncy fork would be a good idea though.)
Will definitely be doing this again, and will put a post up here in advance. Ollie knows of a few other trails we could work in with this too.
Here’s a pic from the end of the ride when we stopped to get some choccy milks.
ECR’s? Thats my dream adventure, do everything, dirt, bike. Paired with a Rohloff due to my German heritage of course. Anyway, lets go for a dirt ride soon, been following your rides down in the National Park with Alex so lets figure something out and go for a ride.
Daytrip sometime? Up the Old Great North road and return via wollombi road and St Albans for lunch. Nearly 100ks of Fire road, roacks and gravel all up.
Flammablethinker and I are thinking of a weekender in Autumn, Lithgow to Bowral(?). Leave friday night, train to Lithgow, stay at a hotel, then 100k’s on Saturday and Sunday, camping in between. Train home from Bowral Sunday night.
