If I’m in town when last place rolls in Imma head down there and crack some champagne.
He did Race To The Rock too. Legend.
He’ll finish, his plan is to ride 140-160km a day, but does have a target to finish in 31 days.
I think this is his facebook page.
More about Paul.
total. fucking. legend.
Yeh, I’ll definitely try to get out and ride with him through Canberra
That’s a great story. Old matey sounds like a total champ.
Amused that the BNA thread on this subject has descended into hi-viz, mirrors, insurance waivers, etc.
Ha lol
Thanks for the article Rhino. It’s blokes like Paul that bring me back to reality when I get sooky about being on the wrong side of 40.
Geez, Mike and Kristof have put a fair bit of real estate between them and the next group, probably due to who’s taking naps when. Almost looked like Seb and co were going to catch Mike yesterday.
Just had a look, and it’s hilarious.
Mike was claiming that Kristofs pace was ‘unsustainable’… and he was going to play more of a ‘hunting’ role. Seems like that started to pay dividends.
I know Jesse actually tested a fair few parts of the routing and definitely took advice from experienced bikepacking locals in a number of other places. Pretty much what Pete, Angry and others said about the routing motivations is correct. It’s a balance of efficiency, safety and ‘the australian experience’.
Plus theres the usual first year learning experiences. When/If it runs next I’ve no doubt there will be a few routing tweaks (maybe due to road changes, maybe due to better routes emerging).
The Inner Northern Melbourne Bike Packers (aka ‘flannelboizofbikepacking’) look to be regrouping like voltron as they slowly near urban life. They obviously sense the opportunity to get a good soy piccolo approaching and know non-dairy supplies will be thin and they can’t be at the back of the pack or they will miss out.
Looks like there has been some decent position shuffling overnight too.
This is the best bit of race commentary I’ve ever witnessed
link?
wish i hadn’t asked.
that CKinnard bloke sure sucked the fun outta that thread.
Really shoulda seen it coming, but I didn’t have a mirror.
Paul and my father met and raced together during ‘race to the rock’. From here, with a few others, they all meet up and do these crazy long rides everywhere.
All close to/over 70 and just love touring/bikepacking…also look for Caveman Chris.
This is great. And not too far in front of Paul is 18yo Lochie Kavanagh. From his rider profile - Sponsors: Dad.
I haven’t read the thread, but I imagine they’re the same people that ask those questions with the MGG rides and stuff eh
Such stooges
