JLN's music thread

hehe, too true. Darkthrone still gets the odd listen at work when the mood is right.

Funny sometimes the songs you get stuck in your head when you’re out on a long ride by yourself. I was out in the sticks on the way to Kyneton not so long ago and kept alternating between “Closer to fine” by the Indigo Girls and “Display to me” by Napalm Death.

Dunno how but it kinda worked.

All this talk of Metal.

I think I’m going to bust some Vio-lence and Forbidden right now

Eternal Nightmare and Forbidden Evil albums! Mmmmm fast.

there’s no closet. i’m out n proud. i’m more into DSBM stuff and some doom.

mad doom
my favourite sprinting song is ‘you suffer’ by napalm death…

I stumbled across this today, all of the incidental music (well as much of it as people can find) from Ren and Stimpy. I can see these tunes popping up in youtube videos in the near future. There might be torrents around, acquire where ethics permit.

(blogspot pages) Ren & Stimpy Production Music Vol 1 Vol 2.

Walking around with these happy, cheery tunes providing the BGM for the day was quite surreal. Except for the ‘Space Madness’ stuff of course.

Oh wait sorry I meant Queensryche, Arch Enemy, Anthrax and Gama Bomb

Right now I’m trying to decide which Tim Barry (Avail!!!) album i’m going to get for free from his label in celebration of their 14th anniversary.

Work has been full of:
[ul]
[li]Latest propaghandi album (which continues to get better and better)[/li][li]Lucero/Ben Nichols[/li][li]The Hold Steady live sets[/li][li]A mix that Sime put on his site a while ago that i keep enjoying… (‘gloom with a view’ as a song title continues to amuse me’)[/li][li]Lawnsmell discography[/li][li]Spiritualized live set[/li][/ul]

At home i’ve been spiltting listening time between catching up on the 300+ CDs i came back to australia to and a bunch of random stuff that goes all over the musical charts.

The thing i like about these threads is that you get to see another aspect of a bunch of friends tastes (shortsie and mckenny into black metal - wouldnt have picked it, but its rad) and get a couple of new recommendations/reminders of some stuff you need to go back to (QandnotU)

I’m not metal at all. Although Weakling is pretty metal… Some of you may enjoy this.

Weakling - Dead As Dreams

Grim, trance-like black metal from San Francisco. Features a member of genius instrumental math-metallers and Drag City recording artists, The Fucking Champs as well as The Gault and Asunder.

The band had one long player, ‘Dead as Dreams’ released by Tumult in 2000 (a year after it was recorded) and two demos, both released in 1998 and (both) with no vocals.

currently listening to.

still stuck in the 90s.

Oh yeeeeaaahhhh! I was wondering when this thread was going to turn to 90’s hardcore! Best. Album. Ever.

Mocco-man, you have made my day.

that refused album is a bonafide classic. changed hardcore, for better or worse.

This album also changed hardcore…for better.

Shotmaker/Maximillan Colby split 12". Advertised in a street press as “putting Fugazi to shame.” :-o

i call bullshit!

actually, mostly i just call ‘advertising hyperbole!’

Pffft!

It’s all marketing lies!

Although some good bands came out of Maximillian Colby like Sleepytime Trio and Bats & Mice.

+1 Liquid Hip Hop is a good album!
(even if he seems to copy DJ Premier a lot… )

Back to Refused…

When The (International) Noise Conspiracy was in town back in 2002 or 2003, they did a signing at Missing Link. So I took my Shape Of Punk To Come insert, and Dennis signed it ‘ARE FUCKIN DEAD!’ I was so pumped up. Still am.

yeah, that is kinda cool.

beat you to it. weakling, along with cannibal ox should’ve recorded mroe than one album.

has anyone seen that refused doco? what a bunch of babies! i can’t really listen to them after seeing it.
