MGG #14 Keep it simple

As the saying goes - there’s no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing.

That being the case, since I only had bad clothing, I bailed. Will have to give the route a crack another time.

That was ace.

Thanks Mike. And thanks for the coffee Blakey.

I can deal with the most of it but on a Mtb show its hard to keep dry feet and I hate wet cold feet, looks like the weather was pretty mild any how.

Cheers Mike D, Blakey and everyone else who helped set that up. Had a great time. Impressive turn out!

The #coffeeoutside pitstop was awesome.

Thanks for organising another great ride Mike and thanks Blakey for the coffee stop. Was tops, even with my bike’s woes - turns out the horrible crunching under load was the rotor grinding away at the front caliber. It was quite odd - it was resonating throughout the whole bike, and being transmitted through the cranks, hence why I thought it was a BB ready to blow up. Anyhow, nothing serious; I fixed it up when I got home. So despite me pulling the plug at about 55km, I had fun, and Blakey and I got to have a good chinwag on the drive back.

Stoked with the turnout (50) yesterday considering the weather, which wasn’t actually that bad, the worst rain was riding to Flinders st, and then another burst at the #coffeeoutside stop.

Think it might have been one of the faster courses, as even the cruisers were averaging over 22kmph for the whole course.

Gembrook-Tonimbruk road delivered as usual.

Awesome day out. Thanks Mike. Such a great vibe and comradery at the MGG events. A nice fast course too.

Much fun. Thanks everyone!

Thats a sexy water bottle. Looked like a rad day out!

Hah, you can just see the whiteboard in that photo.

Another great day out ripping about on empty roads/trails/tracks.

Contrary to public opinion i like those ‘belgian’ farm roads… its fun hooking along them at 35+km/hr in a decent group trying to find good lines as the surface changes, bunny hops a plenty.

Also ‘amusing’ was the guy at one of the intersections with the shotgun. everyone who noticed it definitely was bit quieter/nervous as we approached.

The ride stepped up a notch once we hit the state forest, classic MGG with some amazing roads, great terrain and we could chat a bit more away from the need to watch for potholes and corrugations.

the ST section was a nice switch in headspace from legs to head, the wet roots made it pretty fun and i was in a good group so we were laughing all the way through as our differing skills/bikes made various sections more of a challenge for each of us.

shout out to lewis for ignoring the effects of gravity on the rollers and driving hard in the last kms.

NMC kept me honest with some cheeky heckling in the last asphalt section.

the fish and chip shop did well to cope with the drastic increase in chip and PC purchases.

as always the train carriage on the way home smelt like wet wool…

I take it this guy didn’t show up?

No GPS file, no ride. Bugger. Looks like I will never ride with you guys again.

Self exclusion perfection.

‘riding with you guys’ is the perfect way to make up for an inability to follow cue sheets!

think Che said he didn’t look at a cue sheet once.

There was the time I looked at it while stuffing it into my frame bag…

thanks wcp/manatra for showing me where to go!

Looks great. My bike got stolen so this was the first MGG I’ve missed in a while unfortunately. New bike coming this week so it really was close. Anyway I was wondering if there was anyway I could get a copy of the cue sheet so I can ride this myself to make up for missing out? Cheers.

Yep, I’ll put it up on the blog page tonight. -or right now, also put up the #13 cues on its page.

i’ve been wanting to direct the guys attention to leighs response for ages (but mainly i get a good laught every time i read leighs reply).

Had a super rad time, big thanks to MikeD for organising. Already looking forward to the next one!
