I need pedals for the shopping / wet weather bike.
Looking at these two.
MKS GR-9
MKS Sylvan Touring
I will be running (plastic) clips and straps. Probably the “Kid Killy” clips, and cheap doubles (because I already have those).
Thoughts on either pedal? This bike is going to be ridden probably no more than 30k’s in one sitting and isn’t going to be built to go fast.
GR-9. hand downs.
Abit small in size but will be more comfortable then the touring pedals.
Agree with Gypsy. GR9s are super comfy for kicking around on, and I’m pretty sure I’ve used them with the kid killy klips with success.
yep +2 on the GR-9s, much more friendly on soft soled shoes than the sylvans
have a ridiculous amount of shoes that were fine except for sliced soles where the sylvans cut in
I’ve always found it a bit tricky flipping into toeclips when the pedals haven’t got a tab for that on the back.
+3 on the GR-9s. I got Sylvan Lites and the can feel its narrow pedal edges through the soles of my sneakers. GR-9s wouldn’t have that problem.
I am thinking about chucking some coins at a set of these.
i’ve got a set of the gr 9’s with plastic all city cages and double straps, and am quite impressed at how easy they are to flip into. don’t feel as secure as bo gear straps because my foot isn’t as deep over the pedal (but then those sprained my ankle when i got hit by the car because i as so securely locked in), but for everyday commuting on a road bike they’re great.
yep gr-9 easily wins, even in the pics its not hard to tell which is more comfortable! Platform comfort without looking like a hoverboard bmx pedal…
I run GR-9s with metal cages - love em. Good solid pedal with a fat foot platform. The only thing I’d say is they get pretty slippery if you don’t have any grip on the shoes you’re riding in - only ridden them with my converse once - in the rain - wouldn’t do it again.

I was going to go for the GR9’s before I got those ones with the cranks. tempted to get a set for the roadie though, so give me a heads up when you do an order.
