So I fiinished this today and took it for about 30k ride today, mainly on road and bike paths, with a little bit of dirt. Took me a while to set up the v-brakes because the wheels are slightly out of true, but I eventually sorted them enough to ride it. The shifter and derailleur went on fine though, but I think I need a better chain. The bars needed some adjusting and same with the saddle. It needs a few other tweaks which I’ll fine tune this week, and I managed to get one of the first punctures I have had in a while. I also swapped the pedals to some Time ATAC’s for commuting.
Nice! Looks like a solid all terrain machine.
Looks awesome. Makes me even more excited to rebuild my Iboc.
Yeah, but I wanted to finish on the weekend, so I got a cheap YBN chain. Next Wiggle order.
needs purple anodise, other than that, it looks great and brings back many fond memories of my IBOC.
Good to see it up and running. Getting me motivated to get the Gemini running.
You did good kid.
No chain retention on a standard chainring?
Nah. I never dropped a chain on the Cannondale Rack with the X3, so I’m hoping I won’t on this (for commuting anyway).
A couple of years ago if somebody said jols would be leading the vintage MTB charge, I would have eaten my hat…
Fedora?
The GO for 8 speed chains, I reckon, is still high end Shimano; bike-discount.de have a few of the better ones e.g. HG91 at silly cheap prices.
