I just purchesed some repro campagnolo hoods to go on my Tommasini restoration but am having a degree of trouble mounting them on the brake levers themselves.
Does any one have any tips or techniques to getting them on without splitting them?
Not really - these are brake hoods I’m guessing, not Ergo hoods?
Anyway, I don’t have any specific advice but you can try submerging them in warm/hot water first. That should make them a bit more ‘bendable’.
Yeah, these are the early non ergo stlye.
I put armour all on the lever bodies which helped get the first one on but the second one split on both sides :x
Take the front lever off from the body. It’s not too hard and there’s a set screw. Throw the hoods in a bowl of warm water with a drop or two of dishwashing liquid. Sprinkle a little water on the bare lever body and slip the hood on … backside first over the front of the body. The back of the brake hood is larger than the front opening … It’ll slip right over the bare body. The water will eventually dry and you need only finish the job by fitting the lever back in place.
