Yo I am gonna buy a Nitto B123 drop bar.
There are Crmo and steel version.
But I am not sure the difference between em???
Not sure which one to buy and which one is nicer…
I’m looking for light weight and shine the most. Probably some other features and ideas will help me on picking which one to buy.
agreed. business cycles do the same, with similar pricing:
[ul]
[li]B123CrMo - chromed cromoly track bars - 38, 39, 40, or 42 cm. center to center, 25.4 clamp diameter - $72.50[/li]> [li]B123CrMo - chromed cromoly track bars, - 41 cm. center to center, 25.4 clamp diameter - $88.50[/li]> [/ul]
Ackshully, Fe-C is mild steel. (with minor P/Si etc additions, aka gaspipe in frame terms), Cr-Mo is an alloyed steel with a higher strength. Should be marginally lighter, still heaps heavier than B123AA, but stiffer.
I assume it’s for a street bike? If so I think track bars are fucking useless for street riding. But I guess it’s about hipster points rather than handling and comfort. Just putting it out there :).
scored some track bars from The Jams a while ago, had them on for 1 ride, and now their hanging up with all the other handlebars that I aquired and didn’t like.
I don’t know about a hierarchy, but I’ve tried track, bull horns, road, sweep, flats and riser bars. Currently I’m rocking risers because I find it is comfy from anywhere between 1 and 80kms, gets me through traffic easily due to the narrow width (not stupidly narrow though) and that they keep my body and head back on the bike in a more neutral position which allows me to see over traffic better, but not so far back that I can’t crank the pedals when I want to. Also more comfortable when carrying a bag as track bars make your back near horizontal when you’re in the drops which means the bag is riding on top of you in the arch of the back rather than distributing weight across your shoulders and back.
i used track bars, riding on the shoulders, and its not too bad. currently running risers, but might switch back. the drop position is next to useless though, except for very short bursts (no surprise there). it is form over function though.
The B123’s Cr-Mo are a chrome finish. they don’t match the NJ Pro AA stem (obviously) in colour / looks / finish. I was accidently sent the Cr-Mo ones and the finish is waaaay too shiny for my liking.
Anyway…
B123AA - Heat-treated Aluminum Alloy.
B123 Cr-Mo - Steel
The Cr-Mo ones are slightly heavier. But not Aerospoke vs. Deep V’s heavier.
FWIW I ride the B123AA’s on the street on my Samson, and Cinelli Pista track drops on the street on my Malvern Star 95% of the time.
