NJS Frame, Custom Built or off the Rack frames?

I would say dura ace and Sugino 75’s are about the two most used track cranks at big competitions, except for srm and alike.

I would look at the look, the cinelli vigorelli, the specialized langster pro,
Also the leaders from gear.

Pair that up with Phil’s or dura ace laced to some archertype.
Omniums, dura ace or Sugino 75’s and you will have a more than capable track and street bike.

JP, I don’t get your meaning?

FWIW Hoy’s bike from last year (running Sugino 75s):

If I was going to get a bike for street and track and money was no object I’d be getting something custom made from Oversize Reynolds 853 (steel) tubing like those Darryl Perkins was making in the early 2000s (like J.K.L.P.'s Roadie or the shit-hot orange Kenevans from last year’s ACBS in Melbourne).

But seen as I’m never gonna have that kind of dough I’d be looking at the Look 464, Cinelli Vigorelli or Dolan Track Champion. Get some nice 75 cranks, some prebuilt Miche Primato wheels cheap from Wiggle/Ribble etc. BOOM!

The Steamroller is a nice bike for general riding but it has a very low BB which would be less than ideal for the track.

Yeah $2200 would buy you a leader, omnioms, dura ace laced to hplus son and generic bar post stem and a nice saddle

Oh and they spend all that money on hoys Dolan and put that seatpost set up on it.

I’ve got a leader 735 from gear, haven’t got it to the track but on the street it is perfect. You’d be able to find reviews easily enough though. Matte black looks dope.

A mate has omniums sale ATM on here, I think he wants $180. Hit up user Burgs

Just build something you can zen ride up a really big fucking mountain!

Ah, my point was that I am a lover of square taper cranksets on all bikes and sometimes i feel alone. so i was very happy that people still reckon theyre the best! why dont i see many on road builds on here anymore?

and low bb for the track… great thing about steamrollers is you can add 10mm or so of height to your bb by chucking on some 32mm kojaks

Yeah that is a nice frame in Matt black too  Whats the ride quality like on an alu frame like this ?

rides really well. Mine is all tarck, not track but never the less, this is it:

Reasonably light too, Frame and forks are around 2 kg which I thought was good enough. Got new Mike Giant bar tape the other day as well, shits good.

Hey mate that looks great, very nice looking setup. Not that I will be doing big kms anything given I have two other bikes for that purpose but is it comfortable over short 10km stretches ?

I ride this everywhere, so 20+ km’s a day is pretty common, often more and its still comfy. Make sure you get the right saddle for your bones and you’ll be good.

Lots of suggestions but if the original poster wants to own the bike a long time I don’t see the point of middle of the road frames and parts suggested here. Up the budget, get something nice in 10 or 15 years you won’t remember the price but sure as hell won’t be wasting money on upgrade-itis. Just buy the best you can afford and focus on nothing else but riding it. Life is probably only once

Oh … JP. You’re not the only one … square taper for the win

I guess I am not apposed to spending more if it means its going to last longer but at the same time I don’t want to spend so much it ends up decorating a wall

custom bikes are nice and you can get exactly what you want, but you’ll be waiting a while for it.
njs bikes are sexy but ultimately you’re paying a lot for a bike that is sexy but not good for the street.
if you are prepared to wait, go and see a local builder and talk to them about the exact bike you want, just don’t expect much change from $2k for a frame.
if you want a bike now, get something second hand or an off the shelf, and this might be the best way as you can get a feel for a certain bike, and get a custom one later so you can correct what you feel is wrong with the current frame. also you can use all/some of the bits from the old bike, saving you cash.

Hey buddy, not bothering to read through the thread but I’ll tell you, if you know what kinda bike you want, get a Kumo. I said to Keith ‘I want it to feel tall, like my 29er, but to feel tight, like a tine trial bike. Not track tight, but not road comfort. I want it to perform, to be laterally stiff but vertically compliant, and to look like two transexual girls making a porn film in my bedroom’
and that’s exactly what he built for me. And it’s fucking light too. Rides like the finest person you’ve ever ridden, giving back every time you give it your own. Feelsgoodman.jpg
You won’t regret a custom frame, and I can only reccomend the guy who built mine.

Fact.

Still want

Agreed. super tough bike. Clean looking and not to expensive.
