Outdoor equipment - what should I get?

Just cut off your arms.

It’s a trustworthy brand

Maybe you should think about it some more. Then instead of just being there in the bush having a nice time, you can seek out faults in your thinking and in your gear and after your first terrible sleep - which you’ll have regardless - you can get all grumpy and wish you’d bought the other gear.

Fuck I know! Sorry guys - this is just the way I am with things.

In a world where there is so much choice and so much information at your fingertips - too much choice and so many opinions get confusing.

Burn! (How many grams of fuel did that use?)

To be fair (on me) - even the two staff at the Mont store today told me how confusing the camping mats are. I will be going Exped. Just need to pick down or synthetic really. Doubt I will ever be camping on snow though.

NEXT UP: SLEEPING BAGS! crowd goes wild

Get the synthetic. It’s lighter and there is no difference in the thickness (we have both)
… and there was a hidden part to your post…

Possible future adventure: rucksack with removable daypack. Day hikes with the daypack, rucksack for inbetween/planes etc. Not a big dude so maybe 70 litres. Undecided between frame/support or none. Go. (Please)

Sneaky mods. Exped Synmat it is.

Thanks everyone for your help, patience… and more patience. I will post up pics soon in the what did you buy today thread. I do have many more questions about other things. But people can only take so much of my ramblings - time for a break hey.

I have an older one of these - PM me if you want a cheap 2nd hand backpack.

Interloper gridTECH 70L Backpack - Glacier Citrus

It’s an easy* trap eh, the circular thinking. I do it all the time.

I have no problem with questions and discussions here. This is still one of my favourite threads.

*do you see what I did there?

Tested all my kit out this weekend on a short overnight’r, everything worked a treat.

Therm-a-rest gave me 8 hours solid sleep, I’m a front sleeper, comfy as ever, no crinkles and no arms hanging off.

Marmot bag was good temp wise, clear night, I think it got down to 6 degrees, was toasty in my tent.

Didn’t end up bringing the Whisperlite, but have cooked with it at home and it’s pretty great.

Turdly surly

Set up camp

So… um… a friend of mine is looking for a sleeping bag now.

Whats good for a middle of the range sleeping bag. I won’t… I mean my friend won’t be sleeping in the snow. So a 3 season bag will do. Down or synthetic? Packable etc. My friend does sleep kind of hot and has found that in most bags he wakes up in a bit of a sweat and has to take off layers.

Go. (I promise this won’t be as painful as before).

I love you.

Now my pants are chafing me…

Haha… yeah, this guy is a bit strange. haha he he. ohhh.

nice one jono!! haha.

all I got is, don’t buy a mountain designs bag, mine sheds tiny down feathers like crazy. I mentioned earlier in this thread & no one else has experienced this, but I’m off them regardless.

Mountain Hardwear Ultralamina 15? Might be able to try at MD.

Down has a habit of escaping.

not to the extent I described earlier in the thread apparently. it doesn’t affect the way the bag performs, it’s just really annoying waking up each morning with a thousand tiny white feathers sticking to your thermals/hoody/jeans etc.

Fark sounds like a massive hole in the bag??
