I’ve noticed the same. The prevelance of them has reduced since earlier this year.
I’m only using the roads between Hornsby area and the northern beaches. I also do an inspection run on the northern beaches once a week.
Where I used to see quite a few on the roads doing road speeds or more. Now I’ve only seen one recently at Narrabeen. Some still on the bike paths doing sane speeds around Narrabeen. Still more of a danger to other path users IMO just by their weight and almost silent operation. Even at the same speeds as path using cyclists.
The good news is that most parents are listening to the new laws.

Haven’t been out much because of injury and illness, but saw two dumb helmetless kids on an unregistered petrol trailbike swerving through stopped traffic at Castle Hill (NW Sydney) the other day, less than a block from the police station. All the laws in the world can’t fix that shit.

Yesterday’s highlight was a single wheel PMD that was set to beep when it exceeded the 25km/h speed limit. it was beeping the whole time it was within earshot.
I’m seeing less PMDs. Not more legally ridden ones, just less overall.

Anyone else noticed the number of used ebike conversion kits on marketplace? I guess some people are getting the hint. Not enough, though.
Definitely an influx for sale. But as above, not all. There’s a 10-12 year old around here getting around on a petrol powered bicycle

There’s always some policing and in both NSW and QLD the law-enforcement response to illegal e-devices has obviously been given a prod.
But presumably the Police Department(s) are kind of hoping that a short but well-publicised “blitz” will make the offending less obvious (less rampant).
The state governments are stuck between a rock and a hard place.
Police resources and manpower costa lot.
Unless state governments want to significantly increase the size of the Police force, (which they don’t), directing Police officers to labour-intensive activities like this (apprehending people on unregistered e-motorcycles) will be at the cost of other policing priorities !
Which just gets back to the absolute folly of a certain Politician who changed the Laws to open the floodgates for these things to enter the nation in 2021.

Petrol has been illegal for years. A law that isn’t enforced isn’t a law. (My father was an AFP superintendent).
Locally around here - when it has no pedals and looks like a motorbike and can easily be found around schools and shopping centers, it isn’t hard to enforce. 250W vs illegal is harder, but the low hanging fruit is in plain sight.

They would like to, but good people are hard to find & retain. That why there’s been (in recent times) a lot of very questionable violence. For instance… we old people should avoid protests unless we want to test that bone density. A sad drift in society.
