Yeah, just cans. I’d love a proper setup but need to build a shed to put it all in first.

Would be nice to know how well they harden. I always seem to have issues with cans, no matter what type/how long they sit afterwards/spray and drying temps/paint prep, I always get soft paint. I had a frame I did in enamel cans that I put in a car seat 3 weeks after it was done and it imprinted the pattern of the fabric into the bottom of the BB shell.
I’ll try and update this thread as it wears, given that it’ll be commuted on/put on trains/locked up it will show up pretty quickly if it stays soft. I have had the el cheapo Export branded enamel stay soft for weeks and weeks after spraying it though.
I’ve never read anything bad about Dupli Color and is supposedly good for use in automotive applications so hopefully it’s alright.
Gotta say, I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. Needs bar tape but I’ll ride it for a few days to make sure the position is right and wrap them on the weekend.
Fender lines aren’t going to win any hearts but it’ll keep my butt dry which is the main thing.
For anyone interested these are the specs:
Ridgeback ‘Classic’ frameset
Shimano R500 wheelset
Schwalbe Lugano 2 tyres - 25c
Planet Bike fenders
Dia Compe friction bar end shifters
Shimano RSX crankset - 46/36
Shimano RSX front & rear derailleurs
Tektro R539 brake calipers
Knock off Aliexpress TRP brake levers
FSA threaded headset
Stem, seatpost, bars & saddle from the parts bin
Came up a treat.
Never been happier to have guards than today
Never been happier working from home than today.
Never been happier to be getting paid to drive around in this weather.
I quite enjoyed my ride to work this morning
6 months in and this bike has been absolutely fantastic, love not having to worry about wet roads and the like. Went through various iterations, first I tried panniers but that seemed overkill, then I tried a Carradice saddle bag, but that also seemed like overkill most days and I eventually ended up just using a musette to carry my lunch most days. I’m back working from home now so none of that is relevant anymore.
One issue I did have with a full size bike was it was always a bit awkward on trains, especially at the times I could travel (peak).
So surely the solution is a mini velo, right?
I painted it green yesterday in typical Mr. Sparkle fashion so it’s just in the garage hardening up. I like to think of it as a poor mans Velo Orange Neutrino, I think it was like $300 from AliExpress which is about 1/4 of what a Neutrino costs.
It’s designed for 451 wheels but manages to fit 406 with long drop Tektro calipers so it’s basically the 20" equivalent of a 650b conversion.
Plans are Shimergo, old Tiagra or 105 groupset, guards. Maybe a Wald basket?
etap all the way
That’s a lot of wheels.
that looks like fun…also that last build is spectacular!
Managed to get the headset installed last night. The extra long head tube made things interesting with my press but go there in the end.
Headset is nothing fancy, just some FSA thing that I assumed would be a step up on the unbranded eBay specials. It pairs nicely with the icelandic-ish green of the frame at least
*Not my photo, I wish I owned a Cannondale Track…
Pics to follow! It’ll stall out for at least this weekend, Uni assignments due
Partsdepartment assaulting me after I mock his small bicycle.
This is looking rad.
A bag between the rear wheel and seatube would be cool.
That would be pretty sick, there is definitely enough real estate back there to fit a decent sized frame bag.
