Heard about the Helly crash on the cross ride this morning. Good to hear you are ok at least. Bad news re. the bike and garmin, but these can be replaced at least. How did the crash happen?
This was the main topic of conversation at Shifter earlier. Hope you’re ok mate.
Bunch was sitting on 50km/h right from the gun at Blackrock. Had made it down to Seaford rolling turns on the front and I drifted back a bit on the left hand side to have a rest before Mt Eliza. Had room on my left for an escape as always. Suddenly dude jumps on the anchors, I went left which was my out but didn’t realise he braked because the bunch was getting squeezed by a traffic island on that side. Flattened the steel arrow signs and then straight into the back of a parked car.
Got up to see a dude laying on the double line having a seizure only to go quiet after about 10secs. Guy had no vital signs and was gone for nearly 10mins while some amazing people gave CPR. He was lucky to make it back.
Went to hospital in the ambo where they thought I had fractured vertebrae, sobering thought. Loads of bark off and what feels like the worlds biggest corky on my left quad but I’ll be fine.
man i got goosebumps, that is some seriously gnarly shit. I hope everyone’s ok and makes a good recovery.

Sheeeesh lots of crashes lately, is everybody tired at the and of crit season or toey because road season’s coming up?
Or is it just muppet mayhem?
It’s a funny thing. I think that ‘muppets’ in general have become a lot fitter over the years but skill level has not improved and it’s harder to sort the wheat from the chaff. The fact that a lot of them were still there at that stage after it sat on 50km/h avaerage to that point kind of proves the point.
I always try and stay up the front for this reason. Wrong place, wrong time today.

i tend to agree. too much training by themselves on beach road, not enough racing E grade.

Not safe there either. Big crash in Vets E Grade last week, 2 ambo loads. One bloke looked like Jens at last year’s tour.
jesus, in the vets? what is the world coming to?
