Power meters. How did they help you?

Cannot link from work but a sample periodic report was posted yesterday on twitter by @CoachFergie

It says it’s not compatible with my gs4? Any android users have an idea what’s wrong?

Looks like lots of traffic lights.

Something I should look after better before I next start a race

I’m looking to get a PM and was pretty keen on the stages but there is a lot of negative posts over here Australian Cycling Forums - Stages Power Meter
Especially around poor warranty from the distributor. Has anyone on here had problems with their stages? That thread makes me very reluctant about getting one now.
My other options appear to be the vector but I don’t want to change pedals + the pod looks flimsy. Or power2max which is gonna cost me about a few hundred more than I’d like to pay.

If you’re not in a rush there are a bunch of new entrants coming to the market eg the Brim Bros, 4iiii etc. So prices and options will be getting more interesting fairly quickly.
Ray Maker had a summary article recently - worth a read if not already done.
For me ease of switching bewteen bikes was #1 so the iBike works really well.
My 2nd choice (or next) would probably be a used PowerTap although that counts out track bikes.

I’m trying to follow the discussions about using Moxy Monitors and maybe that will be the next investment for Team Swuzz once it becomes clearer what to do with them.

I have 2 stages, thought the price for 2 on both my bikes was about the same as most other PM’s.
Never had an issue.
Battery life is amazing, readings are consistent. Easy to use.
I have read about issues, but in the 8 months I have had mine, only changed the battery in one once.
I use them in the rain, I wash my bikes with no drama.

5-6 ppl on another forum im on have stages, no issues with any. Limited sample size of course, make of it what you will.

BNA just seem to not like em for some reason…

I know of a few MTB riders using Stages, haven’t heard of any issues from them and they’re likely to put them through more abuse than a road rider.

Except it’s not just BNA reporting the same problems…

Poor battery, water ingress and flimsy battery cover tab are the common complaints.
I’ve had a read up on some other options and will take swuzzles advice and wait (re: save for a p2m).
I came across Dyno Velo which looks interesting but there is very little info on them atm.

I had a first generation stages and had some issues with it, sent it back to the distro who replaced it no questions asked. It did take a few weeks but overall it wasn’t too much of a hassle. I contacted Stages directly about it initially and found they had great customer support/service.

I got my second generation unit back in March this year and have done about 17000km on it since then with zero issues and have found the battery life was pretty close to what stages claimed it to be.

What’s this?
Garmin screen brightness affects the units battery life?

Oops, I was thinking about Garmin battery life… Bit of a brain fart moment. That said, I usually get the approx battery life Stages quote on their website.

You get 200 hours from a battery? I’ve not seen anyone say they get that, though I’d be happy if I got in the 80-100 hours range from one battery. Which model crankset are you using? What kinds of riding do you do?
There seems to be some people who are really happy and some that are really not. The only thing I could think of is climate/weather conditions playing a factor…?

I usually get around 12-14 weeks if I remember correctly, and that’d be roughly 200 hours. I have a sram rival (second gen) crank arm. I don’t know how to describe the riding I do with mine, just typical training stuff really. I think I remember reading about a firmware update not so long ago that made battery life better.
