Riding in the rain!

I always love the conversation in the morning after arriving in heavy rain… I spent the first hour of my day playing in puddles, you spent the first hour and a half cooped up in a sardine can that smells of wet dog with not even enough space to unfurl your MX to see who Pippa Middleton has been bonking this week.

Pretty much accurate

Incidentally, its some Euro₪₪₪₪ playboy or something.

Not today, but the last 2 days in Sydney the rain has been so heavy that at times I couldn’t see where I was really riding - I even resorted to the footpath in some parts as the puddles in the gutters were too deep to ride through, and the cars were (as usual) driving even faster than normal.

I skipped the whole middle of the week because of said rain… pissweak.
Was kinda hoping for some showers closer to work this morning but got nothing, though there was some sweet fog out near home. Then at about 8 this crazy thick fog rolled into the CBD off the harbour, visibility was down to about 10 metres, and I couldn’t see anything out of the office window. #coolstorybro

I was feeling good that I took the train and had a dry arse…now it’s all blue skies and sunshine and really wish I rode.

I have to say now that I have fenders on my commuter, it fucking rocks. Can’t believe it’s taken me this long to realise. Next logical step will be to get one of those extra fender mount thingys that attaches to the end of the front mudguard to prevent splashback.

I want to get to the point where I arrive at my destination and my SIDI’s are completely dry, regardless of the weather…

This frustrates me to no end. Get all kitted out to ride in the rain (and enjoy it!) and then as soon as I’m on the bike it stops and then I just get hot from all the shit I’m wearing. Hate it.

I know right? Why TF would anyone want to commute on a bike in the rain that has no mudguards? When I did a month touring in Europe over their summer it rained on average every second day. Sometimes a light shower, other times a downpour, and in northern France it rained almost non-stop for 4 days straight. We didn’t stop riding just because it was raining although finding sheltered stopping points to get your munch on was tricky at times. To say my mudguards made it more bearable is an understatement as you can only get wet from above instead of from everywhere.

If I wake up and hear rain before work my spirit dies just a little,
that 30 min ride is the last time I can listen to music to myself before I get into the shit hole office…

People that say they love it when it rains usually don’t have to walk/ride to work every day in it.

most frequent conversation in elevator between a suit and courier(me) on a rainy day.

‘wouldn’t want to have your job today.’

‘wouldn’t want to have your job anyday’

it’s liquid sunshine. skin is waterproof. if there is no snow on the ground it’s not cold.

I choose to ride no matter what the weather.

Riding: free, ~18 minutes, fun.
Bus: $5ish (one way), ~25 minutes, not fun.
Driving: $11ish, ~20 minutes, not fun.

Pretty simple.

This! If it’s wet dress appropriately for your ride and have a change of clothes for work/uni. Riding in the rain is a blissful dream in comparison to the frustration I feel when on public transport.

I too love riding in the rain, here in Melbourne that is. I spent some time living in New Plymouth, NZ. That was another story entirely. I have never lived in a wetter place, as it rained every other day. Ad it would often be the sort of driving rain that no type of fenders would stop you from getting soaked through. And it wasn’t warm rain either.

this. if I was to take public transport I’d get just as wet walking to the tram/train as I would riding.

wouldnt you take a brolly?

haven’t got one. I do have an awesome snowboard jacket that’s totally waterproof though, that works pretty well.

so no brolly rolly?

prolly no brolly for rolly
