Riding in the rain!

this morning was pretty good for me. just wore a t-shirt, light waterproof jacket, boardshorts for quick drying, mtb shoes. my shoes were soaked through (need to get a front mudguard) but other than that i was sweet. it wasn’t that cold. spent 10 minutes longer than usual in the change rooms drying out my gear.

and yeah, cbd traffic this week is crazy. would suck to be driving. even today.

Fiance off work so I’ve been lazy and getting lifts in the rain… even on a really rainy day though I miss riding.

Any photos of this extender? i’m interested in rigging up the same thing.

same here…

Front helps your feet and drivetrain, rear helps wheelsuckers.

You can also cut down an old bidon if you have one that’s due for retirement.

So fast you have fallen into the beardo vortex.

Don’t go getting too attached Rolly!

Also a pretty good ride for me - fenders FTW! Oh and a cap to keep rain off the face.

Even though I didn’t want to believe the hype, my new Rapha jacket stands up really well to the rain.

but it matches my other brown bike and fits me so well!!!

i also wore a cap. perfect for keeping the rain off and those additional cool points…

I’m gonna have to get some clear lens glasses for when it rain’s and for riding home at night (bugs). I normally wear a cycling cap when it rains to keep most of the water out of my eyes but last week’s heavy rain meant that I was struggling to see clearly. Problem is I hate cycling glasses.

I do like riding in the rain. I remember my first fendered bike … I’d actually seek out puddles to ride through in defiance.

Thanks to larfinboy for ‘new’ guard, found new fork/'bars in junkpile at LBS. not so supercommuter lives again! Roobaix ride?
Clear 'guard extension out of ‘thin’ side of 3l juice bottle.
Clear Arnette riding glasses, not pictured, courtesy safety shop, my belt sander and some old fubar sunnies.

Plans: SKS Bluemells mudguards, Wiggle | dhb Sync Waterproof Jacket Cycling Waterproof Jackets, already have SWRVE medium knickers. Any suggestions for shoes? Waterproof SPDs that are easy to walk in?

Anyone have suggestions for rain jackets?

I have a gore one, its waterpoof and its brown (as apposed to high viz yellow), so I use it off the bike alot.
BTW, Evans have several brands of jackets on sale as it going into their winter up there.
Big Brand Deals

I just got some scrap leather from a cobbler to make a mudflap for my front guard.

Anyone rockin’ the ‘Showers pass double century jacket’? 65 bills online down from 150… good reviews , breathable and will fit in a jersey pocket.

Make sure guard extender ‘wraps’ around guard to catch all spray on front wheel.

Hehehehe

After doing Frankston return in what seemed to be never ending rain yesterday over shoes have gone from being on my want list to my need list. Any suggestions for fully waterproof over shoes?

It’s pretty hard to find full waterproof that you won’t be boiling in.

Best you can hope for is water resistant i reckon. I know mine don’t last that long.

Pffft… i’ve been a fan of these since my vancouver days where the rear one is referred to as an ‘asshole flap’ b/c if you dont have one on group rides you are an asshole.

just havent needed one until now…

the planned dyno… well thats definitely beardo status.

I have some neoprene BBB overshoes which do the job. I only really wear them during races in the rain, because I don’t really ride socially in the rain any more. Pretty hot for only a shower or two…

In weather like yesterday, I think it’s fair to say you’re going to get wet no matter what overshoes you have.

This.
Water proof= boiling uncomfortable
Water resistant= wet but to a lesser degree

Biggest impact on comfort I reckon would be to mount some SKS raceblades on your road bike if you plan to do a lot of wet riding.
