Markee, I have a Gap (FSA’s DH/Freeride brand) zero setback alloy post on my On One, and it seems very study and tough, looks great too. Styled quite a lot like a Thompson… give one a shot if you ever steer away from the pivotal system
I agree with Snowflakes initial post, It doesn’t bother me if a post is annoying to set up, you might spend an extra minute setting it up and then you’re not going to have to readjust it for quite some time.
If you are finding they squeak and creak, it’s quite often not the post itself, clean the Seat tube and re grease/lube the clamp bolts in the post.
Never had a problem with a seatpost, and I’m not a ‘small’ guy.
Just get whatever looks good on the build then you’ll be stoked!
EDIT: those Deda zero 100’s look great and get my vote, would look even better if you match it with a Deda stem too.
Get a Thomson Masterpiece Horatio. You’re obviously a totally fuss-pot so this is perfect. It is $50 extra for a saving of 50gms. A dollar = a gram. What a deal!
And Markee - +1 for “get a BMX”.
Lastly Miche Supertype doesn’t have much layback but it does look sweet.
This. i’ve never had issue with any seatpost, and i’ve never bought an expensive one. in fact i just ordered 2x $20 cheapies a couple hours ago. i’ll let you know how they fare.
I do find it funny everyone laying shit on me for wanting a decent quality seatpost. These are the same people that fuss over NJS engraved components and $500.00 Cinelli badged stems… what’s the problem maaaannnnnn?
The same people who only have Thomson seatposts and stems on all their bikes, yet ‘it’s just a stupid seatpost, who cares’.
The same people who only ride an Italian frame made from Columbus steel, yet state ‘all steel feels the same, there is no difference…’
If you all practiced what you preached we’d be all riding around on no-name aluminium POS which worked but wouldn’t be at all interesting to talk about.
If you’re after weight saving get carbon. Had one previously. Loved it, a softer ride than Alloy. Only changed it for aesthetic reasons  (Got a Shimano Ultegra badged Easton Alloy). Not as good as a Thomson but aesthetics prevailed.
JAMS have to get to differ, have bad seatposts. Cheap Kalloy ones with clamps that are a totally hassle to adjust. But the worst I’ve had is the (cheap) Ritchey one currently on my MTB. Its only bad because its perpetually slipping down as I ride, gradually, over say an hour (before anyone asks, yes it has been tightened up; and yes, it is meant to be the right size, as is my clamp - Salsa Fliplock). Has anyone else had a similar issue?
Nothing. It’s just that you usually have to paid $$ to get something lighter than a decent alloy one. Most mid range carbon posts aren’t any lighter than a Thomson for instance.
