Can someone well versed in Sidi shoes explain the hierarchy of their road and MTB models? I’m a bit confused, especially with the new Laser model that seems fit above Genius. Many thanks.
Edit, I need some new MTB shoes and wanna know what the price/performance sweetspot is… or not (Shitmano again?)
I have a pair of the Giau model and they’re great. Better than the Shimano’s I had previously. Much lighter and a better fit.
It’s also a bit hard to gauge where they each fit in the hierarchy, as they seem to release different models in different parts of the world at different times.
Just buy* some Dragon 2 SRS Crabon’s and be done with it Horatio. Add in some some replacement sole pieces while you’re at it and you’re sorted for years.
i’ve got the 5.5 sidi genius in white tho…
in the road shoes i believe the ergo 2 are the top of the range
then 6.6
5.5
etc etc…my 5.5 are comfortable as…some of the newer models have the ability to be put in oven and shaped to your foot for comfort…last shoes before my sidi’s were dmt…they were awesome had them for years before they needed replacing and couldn’t get them again through my regular bike shop…
i’ve got a pair of black genius 5.0 and a pair of white ergo 2’s
the are both stupidly comfortable. the ergo 2s transfer power more efficiently and are more finely adjustable for fit…
if you get a nice pair of sidi’s you’ll be pretty happy which ever way you go… if it is for your road bike then somthing with a carbon sole will be more efficient
Which fits your foot better? Shimano or Sidi? that’s probably the highest factor in my decision process. Then i look at which model… [call me practical]
the pozzato italian champ sidis are absolutely sick, not sure they were ever available though so the 50th anniversary ones are next best, followed by vernice white/white
whatever you decide, i’d suggest not doing what i did…
trying on a pair of sidis that some guy you hardly know at work has left in the changerooms. doing up the ratchet thing on the side, noting that they fit really well, then being to much a dildo to know how to release the ratchet and spending a good 20 minutes trying to pry your foot out of them.
also, blakey gets a new pair of sidis every week. i’m sure he can swing you some hand-me-downs.
$430? Where are you looking? Surely one of either CRC, PBK or Wiggle have them cheaper? CRC often has a really cheap price on one size and I grabbed a pair for a bargain that way.
Eagle 6 - depends if they’re Carbon and have the SRS sole (I think they do, right?)? Carbon is good, don’t underestimate it: I had a pair of Eagle 6’s that were the normal plastic sole and they seemed to noticeably ‘soften-up’, whereas the carbon soles on my Dragon2’s haven’t yet and I’ve had them 18 months or more (I think).
My comment on the ‘Vernice’ finish: The finish makes the lorica a much stiffer material, much noticably so over the standard matte lorica. Good if the shoes fits well out of the box and also good if you wear them a lot - they’re much less likely to “stretch” with sweat (note that lorica absorbs moisture and “stretches”/swells as it absorbs and once it dries out, it returns to it’s original shape and fit). The Vernice is also somewhat more water-resistant, but only to a point of course.
I have the white Vernice ergo 2s they are pretty easy to keep clean and look baning!!
White shoes… I did watch to much Tdf and the giro, it’s hard not to want whit cycling shoes after watching that much road racing…
Okay so maybe I had the Wiggle country set incorrectly. Let me review the price again. Seriously though, I understand white road shoes (I have a pair of Genius 5), but white MTB?
I have a black pair of G 5s they are my every day/rainy/pub shoes…
Good shoes can get a little creaky
Love the power of the ergo’s they are awesome shoes!
