Soma Wolverine build

7900 barcons won’t shift a road 11 mech either, and they don’t have a friction mode.

7800 have a friction mode, but still, eh.

You could buy DA9000 11sp barcons for over $100 new or try to score some (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/122008432504)

Or you could buy an M8000 rear mech and shifters to match and front shifting won’t be any good either.

thumbies aren’t cheap, that plus barcons might end up costing as much as the M8000 shifters/mech and won’t be as nice to use.

flat bar 11sp is the best answer.

bike hoboing it isn’t.

I must have got my DA bar ends mixed up, I meant the 11 speed ones, SL-BSR1.

And as mentioned, didn’t know 11speed flat bar existed, but makes sense, there’s plenty of flat bar road bikes out there running 105 11speed.

This.

Meant that this had to happen.

So that a new one could be sent to me.

Do you have to send the old one back or just show a photo? If it was just a photo I’m sure someone could have whipped something up in photoshop.

Just the photo from what I’ve been told.

Sure Photoshop is a thing, but seriously, the dropout is munted, needs a cut and shut replacement, preferably with something from Paragon, as the Tange design is flawed. And then where’s the value?

God, I thought we had seen the last of this thread.

Next up, the #dadlyf build.

We can revisit this when the replacement frame fails pinzo

OK, so #dadlyf build has happened over the weekend.

Package arrived at work on Friday.

Rode home with it over my good shoulder.

Via For The Riders where I paid for Shwa to chase and face the bottom bracket and headtube for me. And on Saturday I got help from Scotty to knock the old headset out of the frame for with thanks and the Flat White he needed post crit racing, back to FTR for Shwa to reinstall it on the new one and then back home for build time.

Went with the existing Ultegra rear derailleur and cassette, paired up with the Truvativ crankset and 32T chainring (from the dead GT Peace 9r). Jones Hbar cockpit, with a Shimano SL-RS700 11spd gear changer I’d sourced (from Scotty) and the cable disc brakes from the 9r. Only needed to buy a quick link for shortened chain and a brake cable, everything else I already had. Installed the Yepp Mini Aheadset adaptor and the trailer hitch for full on #dadlyf style points.

Went for a blat with Maaike to a local park and made it up the hills on the return trip without killing myself.

Added in the essential commuting bits like dyno light and bell and rode it in today. Has a wicked shimmy (locked the knees on the top tube to stop it) due to the lack of weight over the front wheel.

Need to work out whether the porteur rack interferes with the Yepp Mini and then make a decision on what to do there. Will source some new 60mm wide SKS Bluemels and then rig up the rear dyno light and it’ll be pretty much done.

On the last pic stem doesn’t seem to be in line with TT and front wheel. Might explain the shimmy?

Maybe, note you can also see the logo on the down tube, so pic isn’t taken from exactly overhead.

#Edit - just went out and checked, looks like it might be out by about half a mm, and the front wheel isn’t centred in the fork either, probably twisted slightly in the dropouts as I tightened the allen key skewer. So could all be sorted with a few quick turns of an allen key.

Looks good, busy bike build weekend! Took me weeks to build my new bike…

Frame’s bent.

It’s a Soma, that’s a given.

Maaike! Helmet?!?

She’s in a five point harness and surrounded by a metal cage. If the trailer is hit by a car a helmets not going to do jack shit.

If she does wear a helmet while in the trailer it forces her head forward and hurts her neck, as no-one (that I know of) designs kids seats or trailers to allow for a step back at the shoulder level to fit 2-5cm of encased foam on the head of a kid. They’re all flat back designs leading to sore necks if helmets are worn, including the Yepp Mini kid seat she used before the trailer.

We had the same issue with our girls when I used a trailer.
However, I once rolled the trailer and flipped it upside down. Even with the harnesses the girls still hit their heads. It was a pretty bad moment, one my worst.

I’ve rolled it on it’s side before taking a corner too sharp, she burst out laughing, thought it was the best. Kids.
