So I’ve managed to strip the thread on my crank whilst trying to remove the crank from the bottom bracket, does anyone have any tips now that I’ve f@#ked it up!
You might be able to use a 3-jaw bearing puller, something like this:
Thanks, I’ve just cleaned it up and put it all back together, may have to replace the crankset longer term, shame cause its a sugino crank from the 70’s.
Might not be much help now - But which thread? Spindle thread that holds the crank on? Or just the crank arm thread (holding a dustcap on for example) that you can use with a crank remover?
-
Best method: buy/borrow a crank extractor from J.A. Stein Tools_for_Cranks. This cuts new threads so you can reuse the cranks.
-
Or find someone that has a VAR 932 http://www.yellowjersey.org/photosfromthepast/VAR932.JPG
Otherwise:

You can ride up and down the street without the crank bolts in. This can sometimes deform the bb spindle and/or the cranks. But it can work without problems sometimes.
-
You can also buy/borrow a ball joint remover (or pickle fork) like so:
This will usually make a couple of unsightly marks on the rear of the crankarm. -
You can support the bike by the crank arm and use a punch to bash the spindle. Even better, if you can remove the bottom bracket cups and do this it is easier.
