You space the little ring, the crank came with spacers for the little ring originally and you just use thinner ones.

I found these for sale on a UK site - Dolan Bikes (https://www.dolan-bikes.com/) - for around AUD 290 delivered (180 GBP), including BB.
Seems not too bad when the cyclingdeal deal was about $249 if I remember correctly.

Yeah that was good buying. And probably never to be repeated. All I’ve seen over the last couple of years is the 901D on ebay and Alex Japan for about $550 (and then there’s the White Industries VBC for about the same once you throw in BB and the rings). So $290 for the 601D isn’t off the charts.
So, because I dislike the gaps in wide range cassettes; I am considering getting a sub compact happening on the CX… Would like around 40 to 44t big ring with an 11-28 cassette and a 30ish inner ring for a bailout on long climbs etc. Currently running force 22, is sugino the most economical route? Or compromise and go wickwerks rings?
There’s some new FSA ones kicking around, can find them on ebay in US. Much cheaper but probably not the quality of the Sugino.

The sugino stuff is pretty great though, and you can pick and choose arm lengths and teeth number (depending on where you get them). I’ve got 165mm with 44/30 which is a great combo for a short-legged chap.
Cool. Yeah have seen the ‘adventure’ cranks but feel the 46 is too big… Basically want a pseudo 1x with tighter cassette for everyday / races and bailout granny gear for gravel grinds…
The FSA look like they take a standard 110 BCD outer ring.
I was looking to try some wide range cranks that aren’t square taper. Looking for some (cheaper) alternatives to the Suginos, I found a two-piece 110/74 set on Japanese Amazon easily forwarded to Aus. Thought someone might be interested. Lengths from 140mm to 170mm so that might rule out some of you.
