sweet cafes and restaurants of Brisbane

Carolina’s Kitchen do a good feed, better than the new diner at sth bank.

There you go Dan.

I finally had the chance to go to LTD on Brunswick st on Sunday morning. It was pretty awesome. One thing I liked about it - as I drink double espressos, places usually default to giving me the Single Origin they have. I hate single origins. LTD gave me a choice!

I also like Scout on Petrie tce but that place is so hip. Coffee Supreme though!

Sourced Grocer in Teneriffe was always a favourite of mine, it was only about 200m from my old apartment. They completely changed their menu not long before I moved though and it was enough to make me stop eating there. They had one of the best ham and cheese toasties I’ve ever had prior to this.

The coffee was always excellent though, another cup/coffee supreme shop that were always really good. The menu may appeal to you. Always pretty busy though, I’d normally just go in for takeaways then go sit down by the river and blend my tan lines.

Also shout out to my main man Mikel (shatteredhell). Contessa was sick, and deserves a mention because there was always wu-tang playing and I could get really great brewed coffee.

TC: I almost exclusively drank starbucks brewed coffee when I worked in the CBD.

Once my office moved to the Valley I started going to LTD or bear bones. They were both good, but I only ever got takeaway long blacks so I can’t really comment on how it would be to drink coffee in there/what selection of beans you get

Pawpaw at wolloongabba was always decent for food and coffee, and for pastries choquette in new farm is the best I’ve had outside of France. The almond croissants are great as are the salami and cheese baguettes. I would often go there after a big ride and have a sandwich and mini croissant. The coffee sucks though but if you like merlo that might be right up your alley.

Bingo, thanks. We’ve been on an exploration of new places, trying a new place or two every month.

A few recent ones:

Em and I went to Sono Japanese at Portside, I highly recommend it for special occasion dinners. Equal to Nobu at crown casino but cheaper with a little less atmosphere.

Victoria Park golf course does beer, burger and balls deal. The burger was simple but really tasty

Getta Burger at carindale for a carnivorous burger, odd opening hours but the tastiest american burgers.

Wooly Mammoth (was mustang bar) is pretty good for american style food and they have tonnes of beers on tap at the back bar.

Any recommendations for somewhere good and affordable to take the lady for breakfast and coffee sunday?

Red Baron at Milton are good for a cappuccino. Although be prepared to wait for it cause the staff like to chat to their mates while taking and making orders.

Artie & mai’s in Albion is pretty good. Get their brekky burger, best one I’ve had. Loads of bacon and their chefs special chilli chutney jam is seriously awesome.

Little Gnome in wynnum is awesome, just off Bay Terrace. Good, locally sourced coffee and it doubles as a bookshop so there’s some cool stuff to look at while you wait. Apparently the olive Cafe a few doors down is the place to go for brekky though.

Simon’s gourmet gallery at Indooroopilly make good coffee, awesome fresh make pides (Turkish calzone) and they have loads of gourmet, fresh foods, and a really killer deli section.

Also visited king of wings at carindale shopping centre, if you like cheese and gravy smothered chips and a have a hankering for spicy wings. They got it

Where do you live/how far are you willing to go? I really only know new farm/teneriffe/west end because I lived in that area, and we always finished rides in west end.

Pablo at new farm is nice, small so it gets crowded pretty quickly but they churn through tables pretty quickly. Prices probably average about $15 for a decent breakfast. Coffee was genovese (which is what depo were using before they shut the doors) last time I went if that sways you one way or the other.

Bent Elbow at Stones Corner is pretty good.
Only drank beer there so far, but the menu looked good and the people are friendly

I’m on the southside but we often head into west end / newstead / cbd for better options. Thanks for the suggestions.

Gunshop Cafe in West End has pretty good food. It seems like the cooler weather is keeping the cafe crowds at bay so get in while things are quiet!

Good to hear that Gunshop is still good. Was pretty bloody unreal when I lived in West End in '02, I have particularly good memories of their bacon for some reason.

My wifey and I end up at South Side Tea Room in Morningside quite a bit. That said it is just around the corner from us. We also like Rabbit Hole in Seven Hills.

Thanks duud.
Rhys -I can make you a baller daily double. Shoving single origins down people’s throats is something that always erks me too.

Go Mizu on Hargrave Rd for rad as fuck Japanese. Bento boxes for lunch are a sick price, dinner is off the chain good (but leaning into slightly expenno territory). They’ll also store Sake for you if you buy a bottle and want to split it between visits.
Lucky Duck for breakfast is always spot on. Killer staff, simple but creative menu. Solid coffee.
Burrow if you can cop a slightly hippie vibe also does a killer breakfast. Good pizza/aperitif menu for lunch and dinner too. Sweet beer selection.

I’ve always meant to stop by your place man but every time I’m in the area it’s either really early or really late, or Sunday. I will visit!

Pizza at Holloways (hardgrave rd, west end) is where Erik now works and is off the charts. Base’s are on point and hella tasty simple toppings.

West End Coffee House is on point for brews & food.

You should move back here.

Flute at coorparoo shops (near woolies). Had a bacon and coleslaw sarni and a peanut butter/salted caramel shake that was served in a small pot plant. Highly recommended.

No, I’m not 12.

Looking forward to hitting up some of these when I’m back in town this week. Thailand is a beautiful place but double espresso’s are not their specialty.

I know, I know, scumbag Rhys goes to Thailand, still whinges. But you guys understand me right?

^i found that scumbag Mark dealt with the lack of daily double with double changs… That was a full on week…

The $3 Heinekens have somewhat filled the void but I think having my baby here has curbed my activities a lot.
