I have been counting down the days until the cooler months here. As soon as I can, I am going to start doing some trail running weekends through the hatta ranges as part of my training for IM Nice. Me + Swag + Dog + food. Should be awesome.
i wish i had a dog to go running with.
Ran the Staplyton loop track in the Grampians on the weekend. Fucking great run. 12.1km loop from Staplyton campground into the Staplyton amphitheater under Taipan wall, then pretty steep up the big slab onto the range and along the range for most of the way back. Great views, wildflowers coming out, lots of wildlife, and a great track with mix of fast and technical sections. Also gives good cross-training when done after a morning of bouldering – when the fingers stop working, start running!
The East-West track in the You-Yangs has also gotta be a favourite for a great trail rain close to Melbourne, albeit relatively short at 4.5km.
Been getting back into running lately, enjoying it also. I was the cross country running captain in school, wow my fitness has changed. Is anyone on here running in Adelaide?
Yeah I do a little, normally after work in town. Only just got into it myself, doing about 6-7ish Ks atm
Just watched a doco on the pikes peak run. Wow!
After watching a few inspirational doco’s over the weekend I just ran my first solo 10k in years. Got into a good rhythm early and keep my pace well. It’s nothing compared to the fit guys on here but it felt good
Just bought some new trail runners. $109.95 from slashsport.com with $10 newsletter coupon. Not a big fan of the colour, but at $80 off RRP I’m not complaining.

Meant to do a proper write up on this but I never quite know what to say, anyway hard up but no real feeling of altitude but difficult towards the top with scrambling up rocks. 3’54 up and 2’29 down for 6’23 probably an hour longer than I had optimistically thought. A couple of pics…
That’s where we are going…

Above the tree line…

Half way

Finished, skinny but not very skinny and don’t really need a haircut…

You are one of the howgoodisthis crew?! Were you at Buller Skyrun last summer? I hung out with a bunch of them at the dinner the night before the race, seemed to be nice blokes without exception.
Thanks for the pics
Now for Buffalo Stampede?
Yes, howgoodisthis. Did some of the first runs with them in trailwalker before they got so huge, now for Melbourne marathon, ATBIAD, Alpine Classic, 6ft and Comrades if I get approval for all of those. I’m not truly a trail runner just want to tackle some iconic races.
city to bay tomorrow, 12km and it is looking like rain. Awesome!
Just did my biggest run ever… 18.12km in 1hr 20mins and 42secs… Pretty pleased with it… Now to do that a few more times, then push it further! I’m surprised how good I feel - I reckon I could have easily done another 2-3kms.
Have you done the 6ft before? My friend wants to run it with me (not the race just the trail) but it looks pretty tough.
Just dropped coin on shoes. It begins!
Done it twice, once a massive blow out, once a solid effort.
A really good time the pluvi seems to go on for ever and the climbing does you in for the descent to the finish.
First run this morning. Following JP’s advice, and kept it to about 5-10mins actual running, with some walking. Felt quite nice, but found I was out of breath quite quickly…but I guess that’s to be expected. Tried to keep proper running technique in mind, but occasionally felt as if I might be lumbering a bit, slapping my feet into the pavement. Stuff to try and improve upon I guess.
One thing that you’ll find after you’ve been a few times is that it’ll get easier to keep your technique, for longer, without even thinking about it.
As you get more and more kms under your belt you’ll work out what pace you can maintain over a certain distance/amount of time… When you think you’re ready, you can then, either increase speed over a certain distance that you’re already comfortable with, or head out a bit easier with the goal of maintaining a slightly slower pace over a longer distance.
A big part of running (distance running, anyway) is mind over matter… If you wake up not feeling the vibe then you’re not going to be able to push yourself… If you’re thinking the night before (even the few days leading up) that you’ll go a certain distance and that you’ll be able to pace yourself, then you’ll most likely do it ![]()
Make sure you have decent shoes and make sure you stretch after running and you’ll be a way happier runner than those who don’t!
To race 6ft its all about holding 3min/km til the start of Nelly’s, then the nads to drop like a stone down there, then its all a piece of cake. Or so I hear
Otherwise its a walk down Nelly’s and the frustration will suck the life out of the rest o the run.
Aeons, which way are you guys thinking of going?
anyone else going to Bright 4 peaks on melb cup weekend? i hear there is a big FOA state of residence showdown in store. Great event for whippets who are new to running.
