toe clips vs straps?

I was wondering about why some people choose to use toe clips over straps and vice versa. Advantages and disadvantages of the two etc. I’m new to fixed gear riding so please excuse the noob question, I did use the search function.

Th-thanks for any info

BMX straps/flats dont wreck your shoes like clips do.

I ride both and dont really have a preference. One is more aesthetically pleasing on one bike, and the other on another bike.

if you are using clips/straps definately invest in some good quality double straps (toshi/cadence or similar).

each to their own really. Try and decide what you like for yourself!

also depends where you want your foot position to be… i prefer cages/doublestraps.

Take the hint, fucktards.

PS. I don’t think anyone is a fucktard.

A man of contradictions.

^ Thought it was a little harsh.

I use straps since with my very large feet and a whole ton of toe overlap, I can atleast shift my foot back on a slow turn to prevent getting caught like the cage would

i agree

Should we ditch jeans/t-shirts in favour of skinsuits too? And who’s making titanium quill stems these days?

Ideally, perhaps when cycling, too.

You could always go the clipless and straps approach…*

*Apparently his shoe buckle broke, which is why he running a double strap.

Have used double clips with double straps have worked well and look good on the bike, but they stuff your shoes real quick. I’d get powerstraps next time (unless for a classic looking build).

how do clips damage your shoes?

The clip wears grooves into the rubber part of the sole/toe, plus the straps can rub and cause holes. The Adidas I ride in everyday have a hole on the side from the strap rubbing.

Clipless is the only choice IMO.

Clips and straps are an option if you can’t or won’t wear proper riding shoes. But in every other way clipless is superior.

I’m sure it’s happened to somebody but I’ve never known anybody to turn back after going clipless.

100% agreed. Doubt I could ever go back to clips and straps on something I ride frequently exceptions would be on a Sunday cruiser/pub bike.

Sames as above! If I want to get anywhere quickly/efficiently, clipless all the way. I put the clips/straps on yesterday for the first time in forever to meet my mum and sister for lunch and wanted to cry half way there because it was so shit ha ha

I must say I am a lot more confident dropping balls-to-stem skids in my clips/straps though. The thought of pulling out of my SPD’s scares me ha ha

After I got a pair of those DZR shoes I can ride clipless everywhere for casual stuff and use road shoes for actual rides.

Its happened. I did - but it was for a bike that I was using as city bike. Just wasn’t into wearing clipless shoes in social situations

I wouldn’t be comfortable riding brakeless on the street with clipless. Had one too many involuntary clip-outs to scare me out of doing that.

Clipless for commuting FG with a front brake 4sure.
