OP’er: Budget suggestion for double straps: use the laminated ones. They dont cost the earth, are tough, hold their shape well and dont push forward/pull back much when getting your foot in and out. Also you can make single strap cages carry double straps by making up little squares of leather with 4 holes in to thread the straps through.
SPDs?
^yup
EDIT: and it’s always happened precisely when I don’t want it to - ie. braking down a big hill. I’ll keep clipless for when I have brakes or am on the track thanks.
I actually preferred clips and straps over clipless. I really liked the feeling of them except that you need sneakers with a slightly stiff sole or your feet get sore.
that was my first thought as well…
When intelligent people disagree then the best option for a personal decision is aesthetics . Each bike has its own nature. That said I prefer clips except when I ride with a group. Clipping in with clips and straps while fixed takes me more room and more time than the clipless freewheels which means me dropping to the back or people weaving around me.
Agree, except I’ve now wound my SPD’s so tight I can barely get out of them ha. I now have some keo’s which will be great, just waiting on new shoes!
Whatever happened to fully sick track stands at the lights?
Another vote for clips and straps…
Clipless on all my bikes.
But it obv isn’t ideal if you are riding to meet people for dinner/ drinks etc.
But that’s what a pub bike is for isn’t it?
i dunno, i kind of think straps have a bit of a “special needs” look to them…
have seen douches using bmx flats with cable ties… oh the hilare.
Not that he had a choice.
Ahem…
