Travel Insurance That Covers Bikes / Cycling?

Just wondering if anyone knows any companies that cover bikes / cycling?

My normal provider doesn’t cover bikes (boo!).

I even used the search function before creating this thread! Couldn’t find anything related.

Thanks!

velosure.com.au

Not entirely sure but Bicycle Network Victoria may have something…

Thanks but not really what I’m after! Looking for a travel insurance which covers medical, loss of items etc but also covers bikes (not many seem to!)

ah shit, sorry man, totally missed the “travel” part of your title…

let’s just put that down to panadeine forte shall we.

try this mate Bicycle Insurance - Cyclecover Insurance | Bicycle Accident Insurance

i think allianz covers it if you take the comprehensive one

I found none so went with Velosure for my OS trip and had free personal travel insurance through paying for my travel with my CC.

With Velosure , if you get the policy > one month prior to leaving you can take out a pay by the month and then cancel on your return.

I used (using) Travel Insurance Direct, there is no specific exclusion of bike accidents from cover in the fine print, and then just added my bike as a seperate item, you can choose how much cover you want for any indivdiual items worth over $750 from memory.

Thanks for the information MikeD. Looks to cover individual items up to $4000 for theft and damage if additional cover is taken. All other covers I looked at excluded bikes!

From the pds

http://www.travelinsurancedirect.com.au/pds

Additional cover for specified items

Additional cover is available for luggage and personal effects by specifying individual items and paying an additional premium when you buy your policy. Cover is available up to the cost price of the item, to a maximum $4,000 per item

Exclusions to Section 24

We will not pay for a claim that arises because of any of the following:

  1. Damage to sporting equipment (including surfboards) while in use, except snow skiing equipment.

just be aware that a lot of insurance companies don’t cover you if you are racing or participating in extreme sports

Except Velosure full race cover

I have my bikes listed separately on my contents insurance with SGIO/NRMA… They ate covered for theft/accidental damage anywhere in the world, and give me up to $20m liability if I cause a car crash or something while using the item.

However, if I’m participating in a Race, like everyone else, no cover.

i suspect you will find that if competing in a sanctioned race you will be required to have a race licence which in turn will provide cover (or the organisers liability insurance will cover that).

getting hurt recreating MonsterTrack on the other hand… well you are on your own dime (but if the race doesnt technically exist who’s to say?)

Anyone had dealings with Veolsure over seas racing? Im off to KLIFGT 2012 next week and I’m beginning to think I will be pushing shit up a hill in the event of a crash (which is highly likely given the 2 races I have competed in and witnessed this year O/S)

Insurance companies seem to have the same business platform as casinos (i.e. the house always wins)
