Trick track build

Hi Fixed.org,

I’m pretty much new to this scene so I thought I’d chuck up a thread to introduce myself and ask for some advice with a build. Although there are always plans for builds in my head, unlike all the others, this one actually looks like it’s going to be gone through with and completed for a change. FINA-FUCKING-LLY I say.

The plan is to build a fixed gear bike built for tricking. Keeping in mind that although I do have some experience with street/dirt riding on both BMX and MTB this will be my first fixed gear build (YES, I have rode the fair share of my friends fixed gear bikes).

I have my eyes set on the Volume Thrasher as a frameset. They seem a pretty solid/sexy frameset and there’s not much out there against them.

I decided to use Markees EXQUISITELY MAGNIFICANT build (Props!!) for inspiration. Although I plan on a black/gold colour scheme.

Here is the parts list so far:

Frame: Volume Thrasher

Fork: Volume Fu Manchu (someone said something about a Thrasher fork to match? That also has a better axle to crown length for tricking? I should look that up)

Stem: Demolition Stealth

Bar: Volume Trickster

Wheels: Velocity Chukker on some basic hub for now (Formula, Origin 8)

Crank: Demolition Medial 160mm

Bottom Bracket: Primo Mid BMX

I figured I will just use cheaper parts for everything else so what would you all recommend for a cheap/average headset, seat, post, gearing, tires (I have no idea whatsoever about tires for these bike???) and anything else I may need.

Is there anything else I should be concerned about? Any changes you would make? And I mean anything (total fixie parts neewwwb here).

And what size frame would you reccomend for a tall/lanky guy of 6’5’’?

Also, yes I could probably search for these questions and yes, this thread is probably in the wrong place. It’s just nice to have my own little place, right? Also bike people normally like to inform everyone else on everything YES? So here’s another chance to.

Cheers all,

Hey mate. Cheers for the props.
I would suggest 165 cranks on a large Thrasher and you’ll have zero toe overlap.
Headset can be had for $50 from any BMX store, I got a Colony one only because they didn’t have an Odyssey one in the colour I wanted.
As for gearing aim for around 65 gear inches when buying chain rings and cogs which will allow you to get places as well as trick quite easy.
Tyres are personal choice but 40c is the minimum at the moment with some guys in the US running 50c+
Also to throw a spanner in the works maybe 26in rims is an option too.

Great intro dude, it’ll be sweet to see your build when it’s done
