Tyres

He’s also quite huggable too

Bamping an old thread to save making a new one (you know, carbon emissions, recycling etc…).

Gonna buy some new tyres in the next few days (from CRC or Wiggle, whichever is cheapest for what y’all recommend). Mostly looking for longevity and puncture protection coz couriererererer use will be involved. Have heard good things about Schwalbe Marathons, but I’m not sure about all the different levels of “guard” (i.e. Smartguard, greenguard, NO GUARD?!). I assume SmartGuard will be the best protection, but also is the most expensive, and Greenguard will be a little less and they’re a little cheaper, that’s how this works right?
Does anyone have any experience with these GreenGuardones? I’ve run a Durano Plus which had smartguard (I think?) and I never flatted on it, so I’m inclined to go that way, but if anyone can vouch for the greenguard ones I might give them a try and save a little coin.

Also taking recommendations for what I have described the use as. Will probably get a 28c, and needs to be good for all weather (mudguarded SS setup).

And does anywhere have Schwalbe’s for cheaper than CRC/wiggle?

i’m very happy with the durano plus, never tried the others you mentioned. ribble cycles is very cheap but rarely has stock.

Yeah, unless you’re riding through a warzone, skip the marathon. All that rubber, puncture belting & stuff carcass gives a dead ride.

Ultremo ZX, Kojak / Durano is a good start.

Schwalbe Durano Plus are my new fave after 6 months. 28’s if you can fit em(clearances). One puncture only from wire, other than that they seem to be forgiving with the odd smashed bottle fragments I’ve been unable to avoid occasionaly.

I rode over a up turned neck of a stubbie on some durano plus and they didn’t puncture.
They are great but i found the ride average,
Other than that i liked maxxis refuse.
they are about $35 from a local shop and worth a try they ride nicer than durano.

I found the Durano’s are super squishy until about 1-200km’s then they firm up a little and get super nice. I’m a big fan of them, so I guess I’ll go for them again :3

Durano Plus is similar to a Marathon Plus- the ‘Plus’ designation means it has the puncture resistant blue strip in the tyre which:

It’s also heavier!

IMO the vanilla Durano or Durano S are great.

It’s amazing how much tyres affect the feel/ride quality of a bike.

Anyone know a place in Melbourne i can pick up some singles?
I want to give them to my dad for his birthday so he can rebuild some old wheels he has.

So did I , until I dropped 15 psi from what I’d ride normally and they improved massively.

Heads up.

Torpedo7 have tyres on sale at the moment. Schwalbe Durano 25mm for $35 each and 35mm Racing Ralphs for $20 - both folders.

SCHWALBE Racing Ralph Evo Cyclocross Tyre - Folding 700x35c - Torpedo7

SCHWALBE Durano Raceguard Road Tyre - Folding 700x25c - Torpedo7

Chelsea Heights Hotel over 28’s. Cougars everywhere.

Tyre of choice. I reckon they roll fine, last ages, never had a pnt*re and they make a sweet zipping sound when skidding… which is important.

Ace. Really like the Racing Ralph so far, so ordered a spare pair.

Both of these sound good!

Well, guess who’s not going to 28c’s! Yay for $$ savings.

I’ve done a few hundred kms on the 28s and they’re really good. BTW, the 28s measure about 26mm so I’m guessing the 25s are actually a bit smaller too.

All because of those bloody weight weenies who will base their purchasing decision purely on which 28c tyre is the lightest. Of course nobody actually bothers to check that that light 28c tyre isn’t 28 at all…

I’ve run the 25’s before and they seem like a pretty wide 25, at least way wider than 25 Gatorskins. What’s the max PSI on a 28? I kinda don’t want to order from 3 different places for my next haul, so 28’s might even be the go, eeh…

it is not good

Pfft A true weight weenie would never dream of runing a 28c tire!
