Velocity Rear track hub

So my formula flip/flop hub that came with the SE Lager has busted up :x. I was wondering if the Velocity Rear Track hub are any better? Has anyone had experience with this hub? I need a hub that can sustain skidding. Is the Velocity track hub capable if this? Does anyone have suggestions of other hubs?

Drop a little more money on a soma or all out for a durace?

I doubt any stock basic hub is going to be super strong. But Adam might prove me wrong…

goose?

Phil wood. Nothing more needs to be said.

Velocity and Formula hubs are EXACTLY the same, except that one says ‘Velocity’ and the other says ‘Formula’ on it. They come from the same factory IFAIK.

Velocity are now using hubs from Chosen and are far superior to the old formula items. They are the best bang for your buck. No low flange option however.

What does ‘busted up’ mean? Those hubs should have no problem with skids. If you’ve stripped the threads it’s almost certain that the cog and/or lockring were improperly fitted.

I reckon it’s very doubtful that the hub is the problem.

I had that problem where when i did a skid my cog and lockring would unthread and come off. I got a bike mechanic to put the cog on at and after inspection of the hub it didn’t seem to be cross-threaded.

Talk to me Goose…

Am I the only one on crazy pills here?

A lockring does NOTHING until your cog unwinds. Tighten your cog correctly or skid better (ie with no pressure on rear wheel).

ive got a velocity/formula rear hub, been abusing it for a year and a half now. no problems at all. cog and lock ring both rock solid.

what cog are u using?

I can’t see how the lockring would unthread because of a skid. It’s threaded the wrong way for that.

So I’m guessing ‘busted up’ means the cog threads are stripped?

The cog was either not tightened enough or maybe the threads are too wide for that cog. What cog and lockring are you using?

When i first had the problem i was using Dura-Ace Cog and lockring. I guess thats the problem then. ill probs just settle with Velocity ones.

I was doing a skid stop. not a lean forward skid.

generic 15t with dura-ace lockring. wound on as tight as a mother-bitch by the good gentlemen of cheeky monkey in newtown. havent had the slightest bit of trouble.

You’ve probably got better pills than anyone else.

Correct, and then it helps the loosened cog to strip your hub threads

I can’t wait for tomorrow!

Get one of those hefty track chain/cog tools and tighten it up yourself. Don’t forget to check the thing every now and then too.

Ive had my cog tightened 4 time. but it just keeps coming off used a hammer to tighten it. So i guess ill just get the Velocity track hub and make sure that when the cog and lockring are put on that they are put on correctly and tight.

Fair enough… and no hammers eh?!

Does the rotafix method work effectively?
