Vintage HiFi Thread

Closer to $30, including a power supply! Also very space efficient.

I could do this … I need about 8m of speaker wire from amp to garage with only about 1.5m of it exposed. Amp has A or B speaker option (can’t do both at once) but that would be fine.

Still thinking about a wifi radio. Any opinions on this one or suggestions for other (non computer) options.
Revo Mondo Wi-Fi

this would be the easiest no?

then get one of these:

(but they will destroy your records…)

Nah, not my scene. I like putting records on, tapes too. If I need uninterrupted tunes it’s either the an mp3 player or radio.

looks like some fun …

Would have said Logitech Squeezebox but it looks like they are now defunct.
Guessing you want an ‘appliance’ and not something like the Raspberry Pi.
(Which is more a DIY appliance, setup it up then let it run)

Revo looks quite good. There are a few other devices that are both DAB(+) and Wifi.

Correct.

^ My mate has one of those (sans green light radio tuner - never seen that before) and the matching speakers. He got it from an op shop for $20! Only had a crack in the lid.

yeah looks awesome, will probably sound like crap.

^ From memory it was okay, but my friend wasn’t much of an audiophile so it probably wasn’t displaying its full potential.

yeah, with a good clean and decent cartridge it’d prob be okish, from experience with those kind of ‘designer/novelty’ setups are usually really low spec in terms of cartridge, arm etc.

Plus they often pick up vibrations easily - often one of the cheapest upgrades of a table/speaker is to isolate it with a slab of something heavy or floor spikes respectively.

garage sale 5 doors down. $30 in perfect working order. NTB

Ah awesome Blakey! I traded mine in years ago, I think on the NAD tuner I had before the one I have now.

On a shit note, get home tonight and my NAD SteroReceiver C720BEE has decided to give its built in amp the night off. I am a little worried last nights thunderstorm with mass lightning could’ve had something to do with it?

my dad will have something to say about this…

do elaborate

At the first thunderclap I ran downstairs and unplugged everything… Some of them were a little too close for comfort.

i just got these setup from ebay buys in the last week, pioneer A40 amp and sansui direct drive auto turntable. not really sure about any of this old audio stuff, but it all sems to work fine, so am ok with them, all from within 10kms of home too, which is nice.
what things do i look/listen for to make sure everything is working ok?
