There seem to be a few more fixed gears kicking around Hobart (and Tassie in general), judging by the sightings I’ve heard people mention and a few that I’ve seen myself. The question is whether or not anyone else reads this forum?
Shout out if you’re in Tasmania. Where you at? What are you riding?
For kickers, I’m in Hobart on a black number with pink hubs. It’s true.
I rock my Felt Dispatch on the daily commute.
Purchased at a store where said pink hubs owner is employed.
I have seen a Mongoose about too… Am never close enough to ask for a skid though.
Definitely more riders going “Han Solo” around town. Would you believe, even a Cinelli Mash! I’m usually rolling around North Hobart/CBD/Battery Point on a light blue Schwinn Madison, now with new & improved white clad drops. It’s sometimes parked near venues serving strong coffee or beer.
Have spotted your ride on a number of occasions…
Outside Smalt and chained on the NAB [I think that’s the bank]? corner of the mall… Also think I may have spotted outside Hudsons.
Um,…jm, I think that’s called s.t.a.l.k.i.n.g…
But anyways, if there’s a few more disaffected Hobart fixsters on the forum, what about a Sunday ride followed by beers??
Nah, not stalking… I just take note of bikes I see around the place.
There are a few riding around… I’m thinking it’s time for another BnC bash Mish… I don’t mind joining forces to come up with something…
BnC stuff may happen in the future. Current plans are a Spring road ride on dirt and black stuff, and maybe resurrecting the overnight Launceston-to-Hobart ride (to be dubbed the Van Diemen Dash I think). And maybe the second inaugural Hobart-Ouse-Hobart. Not sure about the alleycats.
The guy on the Cinelli Mash came into work a while back but I didn’t get a chance to suss his details. Wasn’t sure if he was local or not.
I’ve never done it before, but it can’t hurt to try! Mostly back roads apart from about 50km of highway I think.
How many days? None! Just one night. Leave Launceston at some time around 7pm and ride on through the night, hopefully arriving at Salamanca Place just in time to grab an early morning coffee from one of the cafes.
Inspired by the randoneurs and events like the Dunwich Dynamo.
On Friday I saw a rather large blue Colnago down Salamanca - rider later seen no-handing with a Crumpler bag, and on Saturday morning while riding down to the markets someone on another fixie in wanky CSC team wear rode up beside me… Anyone here?
Yup! Woulda been him! Said a quick hello before he scooted off in the other direction!
Forgot to add (don’t take offence if this is you I am referring to {if you are reading and you’re male})… The Colnago rider looked like a chick rockin fixed
