Wisemans Ferry Gravel Grind 2015!

Kyklos.
Good rememberin’.

And I gotta say that with the roads being in relatively good condition the road bikes fared just as well on the loose stuff as the cx/gravel bikes did. I think if it was raining or the roads were muddier it would be a different story, but for dry conditions like that a road bike with fattish tyres is pretty much perfect. Totally stoked with how well my primate deals with shitty conditions: hooray for sweet steel and fat rubber.

I think I’ll try to do it again in a few months time, especially if the company was as good as it was.

ALSO: a BIG THANKS to vandenberg for the sweet rubber. So stoked on the tyres and I really feel as if I had the most suited tyres for the day. A small thank you for the borrowed wheels, but the tyres were awesome.

And those waffles. Were do I find them?!

More than welcome, thanks for the lift out there.

Harris Farm at Stocklands Baulkho has them. There’s 2 different kinds, get the bigger packet.

Would be keen Lorday. Cheers for the tips on Gravel riding half way through the day but I was already rooted by then :frowning: was a million % better once we hit the Tarmac. I need gravel skillz

bit late but anyway.
awesome day on the bike, thanks to everyone involved.
keen to do it again too lorday, lets get back to that pub in st albans too - great little place

There are other options to get a ride in that includes St Albans and hits some gravel.

We did a ride from Windsor last year that took in Sackville Ferry, River Road, St Albans and a bunch of gravel. Total about 130km but with less climbing than saturday’s ride, was really good but way too hot as we did it in summer. Would be nice this time of year

Was also the first to implode on that ride…

The bit between the end of Shepard gully and St. Albans was particularly unpleasant (apart for the cementry which was cool) on that ride Jono…

Oh yeh, the corrugations on that bit of road were pretty horrible.

I guess I will do this with my girlfriend tomorrow. Anything we should watch out for to follow the route more easily or anything we should change to make it more fun? I dont have a GPS so hopefully will be able to find the route. Are decent maps available for the area btw?
Anyone is welcome to join btw. we will possibly start at around 8am and the pace will be leisurely.

Yeah, don’t take pretty much the only option to take a wrong turn like I did and cross Webbs creek before the first right hand turn on to Bicentenary. Navigation is pretty straight forward though, it is one of the good things about the ride.

Have fun, print the map if you are worried, and take it easy on the descents. The last turn before crossing the Colo river is a bit tight and can catch you out.

Thanks mate! We’ll sure have fun.

Loved it! Every little bit of it, its paradise for my fat tire CX bike.

And I’m in need for a proper map of the region and don’t seem to find anything. Does this region have a name I’m not aware about? I was looking for Hawkesbury, Wisemans Ferry but nothing…

Go to the Land Titles map shop (behind Hyde Park Barracks in the city) and get the topographic maps if that is what you mean. They have a big master map that you pick from. Alternatively try the Wild Walks hiking website as they often have some detailled maps online, but it is a bit more of a pain to read them.

Glad you enjoyed the ride, it really is one of the best in the area.

Is this ride going ahead this year ? Missed out the last couple of years would be keen this year.

2 years since my last one, I’m down if this happens again. Lets make it trendy and #overnighter somehow…?

I’ll give it a whirl next week on a weekday if any ones keen with limited notice? Aim for 100 kms on similar path to last year, I haven’t been on the bike much recently so pace will be 20ish avg.

Keep us posted Nat, my schedule might allow me to attend…
