Not true. I think that you are a little confused. The X on the back of the hands of underage kids at shows was enforced by the venue owners. It was a way of making sure that the bar and security staff knew who was old enough to drink at all ages shows. When the straight edge movement came about, a lot of (over-age) straight edge kids decided to use the X as a way of identifying themselves as straight edge.
Straight edge is a powerful life choice for many people and is, in general, a positive thing. However, self-righteous people on either side of the equation will always rub people up the wrong way.
PLEASE CAN WE SHUT IT DOWN
