played Codenames last night. Easy, fast and fun and good replay-ability. Really a word association game.
We got this a month ago and have played a few times. Good, simple game that has a few clever tactics you can learn to work in.
likewise with code names. had a bit of fun playing it the other week. good to have someone on the same wavelength on your team.
Just put in a request for COUP - anyone played it?
I haven’t played it but a friend of mine recently got it and loves it.
^^played it a bunch, it’s fun and simple to pick up.
good lying/strategy game.
Anyone played Sushi Go Party?
Also yes.
At least “Sushi Go”…never heard of the party bit, but I assume it’s an expansion thing. (checked, it is…)
Sweet fun game. I like this kind of thing better than Coup…a little bit of strategy but also just fun.
Seems to be a little more flexible depending on your group.
Played this on Saturday night with Bigadz and the wife, such a good simple game. Highly recommend.
I’ve been teaching the kids backgammon over the last week.
Number 1 had played a few games when number 2 said she wanted to try, I was helping her a bit during her first game and she managed to close out her older sister, which led to an eruption from her older sister as she waltzed all her checker around.
Ha, I knew there would be a thread on this somewhere!
I bought Root as a Chrissy present for my wife because the artwork was too fecking adorable - turns out the game mechanics aren’t to her taste, so I am keeping it for myself and getting her T.I.M.E. Stories instead.
Root is an interesting game. You can have up to 4 players, and although everyone has the same overall goal (take control of the forest), the way each “side” plays is totally different. You have the current dominant power/new money/industrialist Marquise de Cat who has the most warriors but needs to maintain their industry in order to be competitive. Then there’s the Eyrie Dynasties, the faded aristocracy trying to return to glory. The can build out fast with mandatory actions (their authoritarian decree), but if you cannot fulfil all the mandatory actions, then your leader is usurped and you go into turmoil. Next is the Woodland Alliance, a guerilla warfare faction that quietly gathers supporters until they cause a revolt and take over sections of the board. Last of all is the Vagabond, a single player with no armies, who allies with all factions in order to either profit off them all, or ride the coat-tails of a faction leader and share their victory.
We had this at the hostel I managed. Between this and connect 4 pretty much all the other board games we had were ignored. Really good game to add a drinking element to for adult fun.
oh i should have remembered this a month ago…Bloodrage had a Kickstarter for an upcoming digital version.

Probably the best boardgame I’ve played? My buddy has a copy, but I bought a physical one as well as the digital for when it is released.
Also my wife and I have been playing a sweet game called Tribe. There are 5 stick-figure people and you have to load them up with random pieces that look like Keith Haring squiggles. It’s super fun…highly recommended for kids too.
Alright, just bought a couple of boardgames - one a secret santa gift for a neighbour… and one for me.
Betrayal at House on the Hill
Betrayal at House on the Hill is a tile game that allows players to build their own haunted house room by room, tile by tile, creating a new thrilling game board every time. The game is designed for three to six people, each of whom plays one of six possible characters.
Secretly, one of the characters betrays the rest of the party, and the innocent members of the party must defeat the traitor in their midst before it’s too late! Betrayal at House on the Hill will appeal to any game player who enjoys a fun, suspenseful, and strategic game.
For me.
Flamme Rouge
Flamme Rouge is a fast-paced, tactical bicycle racing game where each player controls a team of two riders: a Rouleur and a Sprinteur. The players’ goal is to be the first to cross the finish line with one of their riders. Players move their riders forward by drawing and playing cards from that riders specific deck, depleting it as they go. Use slipstreams to avoid exhaustion and position your team for a well timed sprint for the win.*
Oh, I was nearly going to get Secret Hitler… but decided against it. Anyone played any of these?
Ooh - have been keeping an eye on games that come up heavily discounted on amazon prime lately - trying to coerce some friends into a regular sunday night dinner/games session.
Will have a look at those ezy - they sound interesting. So many options out there for good gifts for people too.
So I played Betrayal at House on the Hill with my neighbours over the summer when it was too bad to go outside due to the smoke - it took a while to get to learn the mechanics but once we got into it, it was a lot of fun. Huge replayability with 50 different scenarios you can play out. As luck would have it, I ended up being the one who had to work on my own to try and kill the other players once that mechanic kicked in.
As for Flamme Rouge, I haven’t played it yet - the game shipped without some cards that I needed to play. I asked for the store to send me out the missing cards, they sent me out a complete box. Not sure what to do with the incomplete set now.
I’ve been playing board games with Amy and Seb about once a fortnight for the past few months. I’ll make sure to invite you next time
i played this recently and hated it, i liked the exploring phase but once the haunting started it turned to shit and we got the alien virus scenario and was v v average
Scan the missing ones and print onto card stock and pass onto someone else?
@Zach got the Oceania wingspan expansion pack yet?
