Ezylee's Kustom Kumo Konsiderations

also non-negotiable

Actually go disc or gtfo:

Well done Ezy.

Leave it with Keith, he’s building it & knows a thing or two about a thing or two. Have faith in the artist…
Not that Richard Sachs knows everything but his insight & experience from years ago is well worth a read: How My Present Reflects My Past | RICHARD SACHS CYCLES

As for parts … they’ll evolve themselves as you the build starts shaping up. You don’t have to go all out but don’t short change yourself either (nothing worse than spending money twice). Everyone here is well meaning but not everyone has the insouciance, wherewithall or experience to know exactly what will work, what the best options are and which components will deliver for the price as well as the builder.

If you’re not already at that stage … lay it all out in the brief & trust Keith to deliver

GTFO then … Discs on a road bike are a waste of time imo & make the bike heavier & far more complicated than it needs to be. If someone came to me asking for a disc road bike frame the price would go up $500 just to even think about it, and probably more once the quote is finalized and delivered.

Brief will possibly happen next week… over dinner. Be there!

All this hate over brakes. Have discs, don’t have discs, your choice. I have them I love them. And yeah no need for Hyrdo’s, BB7 road are just fine.

And thanks for likening me to homer, blakey, he’s way cooler than al borland.

IndiFab has soooo many road models! whats up with that? Can we go ride singletrack pre-nutting out the details of this rig next week? thurs night ride on brucidge followed by barely edible food at Tilleys? I would be there, of course, being nasty about everything that comes up. Then we can all throw up the next morning/afternoon/evening and metaphorically clarify our thinking/purge bad ideas.

ezackly, just don’t have both.

For what I guess is this bike’s intended use, medium reach dual pivots or centrepulls will be more than fine, and save some weight (given current tech). Shit, even well placed canti studs (put the pads in the bottom of the slots, maximise rim clearance) with 85mm mini-vees would give insane braking power and still clear guards & a 30mm tyre.

If Ezy wants to go disc to save his rims / do alpine descents in the wet / use carbon clinchers, then it’s possible to do that today (R785 di2 / Spyre / HyRd / CX77), or in the future (105 di2 hydro trickle down / ultegra cable shift & hydro brake / other unreleased products).

The only reason I wanted to go discs is because I have the hope disc hubs sitting here. I can always just sell them to fund other parts. No biggy.

I may be interested

awwwwwwwww yisssss, motherfkn brake discussion.

Remember when it was “fixed gear, no brakes, can’t stop, don’t want to either”?

if this is one of those ‘last bike i will ever have to buy’ things you really want to get disc tabs on the frame so it is at least futureproofed for the medium term

as much as most of us find discs on road bike to be pointless, they will be here soon and we will all end up with them

A thermomix can…

You never invite me to dinner

+1

wut

Discs on a road bike is a solution to a problem that didn’t exist.

And even if disc tech does advance greatly in the coming years whats to say that the O.L.D. standards will not change also, or the axle style, or the caliper mount style… I could go on.

futureproofing = crystal ball gazing

Exactly my thoughts. For the weight and speed of most riders calipers/centrepull are more than enough. The only exceptions are for big alpine descents that could cause rim heat problems.
In an emergency braking situation I reckon your tyre grip will give way before your brakes do anyway

But carbon clinchers??

solves problem of looking awesome.

All of this inconsequential brake conversation aside. I think ezylee has a nice problem to have, a custom built bike with any option available to him. lucky him.
