Well I turned it on this morning and we were 2-0 down. I turned on the MotoGP practice instead. Much better :winking_face_with_tongue:

Yeah not the best performance this morning, but I’m still pretty confident we can get over Paraguay and move past the group stage.

Scratching my head why Irankunda and Metcalfe were left out of the starting 11, especially with Velupillay in as a replacement - had an average season with Victory at best and somehow finds himself representing the country in such a big game. Volpato also looks to be a super slick play maker, but only came on when it was too late.

Of course, hindsight is a wonderful thing and in Popovic we trust

My money is on the Dutch making a deep run, maybe even the whole thing (if Australia don’t win it).

Certainly put Sweden to the sword, who looked pretty hot against Tunisia.

Would love to see Morocco take it all the way. Love how the African teams are building every tournament.

My money’s probably still on France, but oh boy, a lot of games to get through yet.

If you’re not Dutch, you’re not much.

If you need an ambulance tomorrow between 12:00 and 2:00, you’re SOL.

They’re playing Paraguay, not paramedics.

So 'Straya vs Egypt next Saturday at 4:00am

If Salah is sidelined I reckon we might be a chance.

Some great games today with a few surprises - World Cup never fails to deliver. Senegal’s goals were :fire:

Ray O’Leary (the NZ comedian) had a great line regarding the NZ v Egypt game: Mo Salah, mo’ problems.

England seem to be looking good, much as might be un-Australian to say it.

Germany too.

I don’t give two flying forks about it!

I gave up following soccer when they became auditioners for the likes of Home n Away and Days of our Lives!

Yes, I played it for 5yrs and was a captain and got a Best n Fairest.

I am in the same boat. I know it is ‘the worlds game’, but fuck it is boring. The one thing that I can’t get past is the diving in the game. A little knock and players will fall to the ground like they are suddenly giving birth through their pee pee.

Go watch some ice hockey.

Yeah the diving is cringe worthy.

OTOH I watched 4 corners the other night on CTEand I see that as far less likely in Soccer than AFL or Rugby. Basically trauma induced brain damage.

I was happy when our now grown Son stopped AFL and kept up his basketball. I certainly didn’t encourage him to persist with footy. Just too many injuries. :-1:

For sure, just watch the highlights. Part of the enjoyment (for me) is the tension that builds up as teams try to pick their way through defence, then the bursting celebration when they actually do.

Took me a while, too, especially as I’m an ongoing AFL fan. Things to remember:

  1. It’s meant to be a non-contact sport
  2. Think of it as theatre

But, y’know, it’s also fine if you don’t get into it.

Just caught the end of the Portugal-Croatia game. Absolute fucken scenes, the drama!

Or call it as it is - cheating.
