yea, guy said he’s surprised i can ride for anymore than 5-10k without pain. fuckity-fuck-fuck.
Are you still going to be able to do Timor?
hopefully i’ll see some improvement by then. if worse comes to worse, i can just set up jeremy and benzy’s tents each night.
Hey McKenny, I can recommend Amy Ryan at Melbourne Sports Medicine Centre, level 4, 250 Collins Street - I was going to her for deep tissue massage on the cannons once every week or second week all through summer. Would have used Scooter but he was too hard to get to.
Stu
Awesome, thanks Stu. Given that’s not too far from my work, I can hopefully book in for some midday, mid week sessions.
I’ve just booked there myself - Amy isn’t available for a few weeks but if you scroll down the list of people there you will notice quite a few have a background in sports including one of the myotherapists who is on one of the professional womens’ cycling teams - you should be able to get plenty of help there - I rate them and agree, pretty handy location for those of us in the CBD.
I have dislocated my patellar (knee cap) twice. The physio said riding was a good idea, and riding fixed has for sure and for certain helped. Braking with my legs and skidding was a no no for the first few rides, but slowly my knee has improved. Was running a 69gi with 167mm cranks, to alleviate some of the pressure, limit the range of movement and spin like a mofo. I have been more and more able to crank up the gear inches and really work my legs (especially braking), good old eccentric contraction (lengthening the muscle while contracting).
As always listen to your physio/doctor, and not some dude on the intertubes.
Going for my second knee reconstruction in exactly eight hours… looks like my fixed riding days are over… shit son!
Possibly the best advice on this thread imo. I have a mate that does triathlon - he is a great athlete - but is up to his 3rd reco in 3.5 years. Gets it done, doctors tell him not to run for X months and he goes running at about X minus 1 month cos he feels ok…
I haven’t read each page yet, but has anyone had any issues relating the bakers cysts? I’m booked in for a ultrasound this arvo to get my right knee checked out.
^^^^ Might have to have a chat to you in person next time OB. And nice signature - took me a second to work out what it meant
Had my whip all set up for a 70km event on Sunday (80gi, usually run 68gi) and after chasing the lads along the freeway bike path on tuesday night my right knee hurts in the posterior location. My knees are usually pain free. Tall gearing is out and will go back to 68 or maybe 72ish for the 70km - if I can ride it.
Rode to work this morning on the tourer (geared) and took it real easy and spinny.
The pain is only small but noticeable when i walk about, and when I have to push harder than normal when pedalling. Will probs get the train to work tomorrow for a proper rest day.
Anyone have suggestions on speeding up the recovery between now and Sunday? Am taking protein suppliments and multi-vits.
Without knowing the cause of the pain theres no way of knowing my guess is Tight ITB’S or similar.
rest and heal?
If my knee is ever sore just sleep with one of these on and by the next morning the pain is gone.
Magnets
I know exactly why it hurts, I pushed it too hard on the massive gear when not properly warmed up. I almost never get any knee pain.
Pretty much what I was thinking, limited time for resting however.
Will investigate.
Would temporarily moving the saddle a smidge forward and down make any difference? Thought it might take some pressure of the back of my knee.
ice, voltaren, ice, voltaren
Did someone say Magnets?
