Fixed + knee injuries

The most Fixed injures is because the breaks.
I didn´t break backwards. I have in my Fix regular breaks, it is security as well.

SURGERY!

I’m three weeks after having my knee arthroscope done. Turns out I had torn meniscus and sinovial swelling so bad they had to send a swab to the lab to make sure it wasn’t some kind of degenerative disease or something. Doc said it was a horrible looking knee way worse than he’d thought it would be. (Nothing bad in there…just super inflamed).
That’s what happens when you spend about 4 years doing nothing about it I suppose.

Rehab is good…again because of the length of compensation from other muscles i need to rebuild strength from scratch. Me leg does funny things to avoid working the knee…but it’s noticeably stronger and hopefully within a few more weeks i can run/play soccer again.

I already have full movement back…able to bend my knee all the way for the first time in ages and can lock it straight without aches/pain.

IF YOU HAVE KNEE PROBLEMS GET THEM FIXED STRAIGHT AWAY!!!

wish i had an MRI years ago…

hmmmmm it’s been 10yrs for me…

uh oh.

stoked you’re in good shape man, there’s hope for us yet!

get some insurance and get it sorted dude.
i think all up i owe about $100 in co-pays…including a month or two of rehab.

little things are great…going down stairs i don’t feel like i’m about to fall.
not having to sleep with a pillow under my knees to stop them from locking…generally just knocking things with my leg and not having it swell up…it’s glorious!

yeah I’ve got medibank private hospital cover etc so gonna look into it when I get back to oz.

I hear ya with the pillow thing, though mine doesn’t lock, it just gets bent once I’m sleeping & relaxed & I wake up in agony!

really good to hear such great results, can only hope for the same!

so for those in melbourne, who has had knee surgery within the private system and who did you have as your surgeon?

i’m trying to line up an appointment etc before i get home so there’s as little delay as possible, so wanting to know who people can recommend.

markee, i seem to recall your surgeon was good??

what’s the procedure again, GP appt for referral, specialist appt for referral to a surgeon, appt with surgeon at private hospital of your choice?

any info appreciated.

thanks

Russell Miller in Carlton. Comes across as a bit of a knob, but my knee works.

Yes GP referral, then go from there. Oh, he operates out of the Freemason, which I highly recommend.

thanks for the info, appreciated!

can you recall how long you had to wait to see him after your referral?

Is most likely an excellent health practitioner.

my knee surgeon resembles that comment^

(i did 85k on it on the weekend and it felt great! well it felt nothing. which was great)

I can handle them being a douchebag, provided they do quality cutting!!

Didn’t have to wait long, just have your ducks in a row before you make your appointment.

Replied via email but for those interested I had Ray Crowe do my ACL replacement with a LARS ligament. I raced my motorbike again 4 weeks after the op. LARS recovery is a lot quicker but only an option if the ligament is recently torn. That was five years ago and I’ve not had any issues since.

thanks mate

dr dom is helpin me out with regards to referrals/specialists/surgeons etc so hopefully i can line something up for when i get back and get it done straight up.

thanks folks.

off to an appointment with Eden Raleigh tomorrow. If his prices aren’t insane & he seems good I may be under the knife within a few weeks but we’ll see how we go.

for future reference, I stumbled upon this forum which seems to have a ton of info (albeit just other peoples opinions mainly).

edit - helps if I put the link ay… http://www.injuryupdate.com.au/forum/archive/index.php/f-6.html

so for those that don’t have instagram…

off to the epworth next monday for a knee recon and potential ‘microfracture’ procedure. recon was fully welcomed and expected, the microfracture… not so much.

seems for the last 10 years my bones have been gouging away at the cartilage and it is subsequently a bit rooted. surgeon won’t know if the MF can be performed until he gets in there for the recon, but from what i can read online, if it’s a lesion smaller than 2cm square he’ll give it a crack. it involves removing between 5-15 ‘holes’ from my femur in order to stimulate the body into producing replacement cartilage and scar tissue to act as a cushion between my bones. all sounds great except…

… if it happens i won’t be able to put any weight on it for 6 weeks (2 crutches), then down to 1 crutch for a further 6 weeks. no rehab until at least 6 weeks. the reason for this is because any weight could cause the bones to rub and destroy any new cartilage that has started to form. could be a looooooong one in terms of getting back on a bike etc and kinda blindsided me a little bit.

oh, and he seemed incredibly confident that a full knee replacement would be on the cards for me well before my 60’s, so there’s that too.

TAKE CARE OF YOUR KNEES FOLKS!!!

Did you at least land that fucking stair jump?

I had on a different day, which just adds to the “why did I keep trying that ollie?!” question one asks after such an injury…

that all sucks rolly. though getting fixed will be awesome in the long run.

good luck with the annoying rehab and shit.

thanks mate.

not overly stoked but I’m feeling better about it each day. knee has been crunching, clunking, slopping all over the place this week, so that’s helping, be nice to have stability at the very least.
